„Big“
Jana (Komrsková) versus „little Jana“ (Šikolová)
The passed year was an encouraging year for the Czech Women
Artistic Gymnastics.

Together with Jana
Komrskova´s successes in the World Cup, WC and EC and
with the success of our junior team in Patras the appetite of our
clubs is increasing. Interest of media and public is waking up
considerably. Two weeks ago the Czech TV prepared a transmission
of Czech Wobenzym Grand Prix de Gymnastique of mixed pairs (with
Andreea Raducan and Marian Draculescu as the winners). One could
not imagine a better invitation for the oncoming Czech
Championships.
The head coach responsible for women preparation for OG –
Stanislav Vyzina together with the coach-father Jan Komrska want
to bring the complete team to the Olympic arena of Athens 2004. At
present they compose the team for the qualifying WC 2003. Girls
concerned could entrain at the Czech Championships. And they did!
A pack of young girls – recent junior gymnasts. After all, the
all-around specialists Jana Šikulová (2. AA), Petra Chytilová
(4. AA), Veronika Ožanová (5.AA), also a new Adéla Pavouková
(8.AA) from the country club – all of them so called light
weight “butterflies”. Lucie Gellertová has a little more
experience and the same chance. Between the “big Jana“ (Jana
Komrsková) and “little Jana“ (Jana Šikulová) the second in
all-around is a difference of 5 years, 17 cm, 17 kg and also a
1,725 pts.
Do you not miss several more experienced who could help to span
this gap between Komrsková and “butterflies“? Coaches are
worried too – they have been searching for three months why
Katerina Marešová (18) feels dizzy now and then. Her come back
is in the air for the time being but possibly real. And also the
come back of 2 or 3 of her coevals who are more concentrated on
theirs studies now.
In spite of all the nervousness caused by the expected attack of
the youth, Jana Komrsková won at the Czech Championships in
Trinec all the 5 gold medals. Now her collection comprises 22 of
them in this category. In Trinec she was decorated by Daniela Bártová,
the seventeen-fold world champion in pole jump. Why Daniela?
Because she has been working as a WAG coach in a nearby Ostrava
after finishing the 4th in pole jump at OG Sydney and she was also
representing Czechoslovakia as a gymnast at OG Barcelona…
Two Czech talented gymnasts are now aiming for training camps in
the USA - Petra Chytilová and Lucie Gellertová… |

Konečný: Gold ist the best doping!
It must be annoying for Czech men to have for two years already a
junior all-around king - Martin Konečný
(SK Hradčany Praha).

By chance he is not a
mere anybody, two months ago in Patras he became junior European
champion on high bar and got the silver on vault.
All the competitors in Trinec tried to deprive him of the leading
position. There were young gymnasts, older and also the oldest
ones who began to train again especially for that purpose
after a one or two year's break. For example Jiří
Fiřt (30), OG participant from Atlanta, who
spent recently more time by coaching girls in gymnastics and as
filmový kaskadér than by training himself…
It has to be said that the success of „greenhorn“ Konečný
in Patras – the title for Czech gymnastics after a quarter
of century is the best doping! Of course as expected in all around
was Konečný fighting hard with the second Daniel
Rexa (22) and the third Martin
Vlk (22), both all-around finalists of 2002 EC. The
fourth place for Fiřt – this is the competitor's victory
over himself and leisure...
The most attractive show offered the high bar. Here the junior
European champion Martin Konečný had just one competitor - Daniel
Rexa. Both were risking in finals and had falls – Konečný
finished even without any medal. It is truth that for senior
competitions on high bar he challenged a full routine (S.V. 10)
with the bonus concentrated on flight elements. The routine begins
with Kolman-sE, proceeds to the combination of three Tkatchevs
with Gienger to the closing Watanabe dismount – first time
successfully performed at Czech
Wobenzym Grand Prix de Gymnastique 2002 in Brno (1/6 2002).
Daniel Spilka (26) closed here his
competition career – for 8 years in succession he picked the
title of Czech champion on vault! Not before long this newly
graduated engineer shall leave Europe. Engaged for an overseas
gymnastic circus…
