Olympic Schedule of Artictic Gymnastics and Swimming displaced...

The competition schedule for the 2008 Beijing Olympics has been finalized, with the swimming finals and some of the artistic gymnastics to be held in the morning, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced on Thursday.
"After a thorough consultation process, the IOC executive board has approved a final version of the competition schedule,"
IOC's coordination commission chairman Hein Verbruggen told a press conference. So the team and the all-around competition of artistic gymnastics will held at 10 a.m. local time in the morning; it's 4.a.m. CMT....

World Cup: 24th DTB Pokal 2006 closed

One week after the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2006in Aarhus, Denmark, took place held 24th anniversary of the 'DTB Cup' in Stuttgart. This was the last world cup (cat. A) of the FIG circuit 2005/6, which will finish at the WORLD CUP FINALE in Sao Paolo in December.
The GRAND PRIX Glasgow in November will be the first event of the new world cup serie 2007/08...

advance to finals at 2006 DTB-Pokal World Cup


INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., Oct. 27, 2006 – 2006 all-around world silver-medalist Jana Bieger of Coconut Creek, Fla., and 2006 U.S. World Championships Team members David Durante of Garfield, N.J., and Kevin Tan of Fremont, Calif., have advanced to the finals on Oct. 28-29 at the 2006 DTB-Pokal, a World Cup event held in Stuttgart, Germany.
Bieger, who also was a silver medalist on floor at the 2006 World Championships, will compete in the finals for the uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise.
Durante will participate in the pommel horse finals, with Tan advancing in the still rings finals.

The finals for pommel horse, still rings and uneven bars, as well as women’s vault and men’s floor, are on Oct. 28. The finals for balance beam and women’s floor exercise are scheduled for Oct. 29, along with men’s vault, parallel bars and horizontal bar.

In the preliminary rounds, Bieger was first on the uneven bars, third on floor and fourth on the balance beam.
Durante was fifth in the pommel horse prelims, with Tan coming in fourth in the still rings. The men did compete on several other apparatus but did not advance to the finals. Scores from the prelims do not carry forward to the finals.

• Gymnasts from more than 30 countries will vie for top honours at the 15th Doha Asian Games 2006. The event, set to take place in Aspire Academy will see some top class performances over a period of 11 days from December 2 to 12.
Gymnastics involves the performance of sequences of movements incorporating six distinct disciplines: artistic, rhythmic, trampoline, aerobic, acrobatic and general.

World Championships finished: China wins eight gold medals!-- Australia and Great Britain jubilate about first World Champions ever!

China was the absolutely dominant nation, winning eight gold medals at the Artistic World Championships, which are finished today in Aarhus Denmark.
Romania won two titles by Marian Dragulescu, Italy, Australia and Great Britain the very first of history by Vanessa FERRARI (all-around), Philippe RIZZO (high bar) and Beth Tweddle (uneven bars).
The new world champions 2006 are coming from six nations, the medals went to 18 different countries!

Belgian Team wins 31st LEVERKUSEN CUP -- GYMfamily Event --

The women's team of BELGIUM was the winner of the 31st LEVERKUSEN CUP 2006 wich was held at the Wlhelm Dopatka Hall of Leverkusen, Germany on Saturday evening.
On second place came the Hungarian Hungarotel TC, followed by the last years's winner, host Germany. Also in all-around the Belgians lead, with Marieke Herteleer on top, followed by Dorina Böczögö from Hungary and from Julien Eggermont (BEL) on third place.
Best of German host were Tina Jentsch and Jessica Heinz ranked 5 and 6 ....

... also the 31st Anniversary of Leverkusen Cup 2006 was a big success
and an international artistic gymnastics highlight again!!

100th Anniversary of FRG...
Romanian President Traian Basescu awarded the Romanian Gymnastics Federation (FRG), the Sports Merit Order Class I, on Saturday, on the special occasion of FRG 100th anniversary.
Basescu also awarded ex-coaches Maria Cosma and Adrian Goreac the Faithful Service National Order in Commander rank. ....
The Romanian Gymnastics Federation is by far the most successful Romanian sports federation, Basescu said and voiced hope the Romanian flag and anthem will keep the right to be looked at and listened to, respectively, thanks to the Romanian sports people successes, in the future world championships and the Beijing Olympic Games.
Basescu thanked all the sports people and their coaches and the Romanian Gymnastics Federation for everything they have done for Romania.

Basescu welcomed the International Gymnastics Federation president Bruno Grandi, at the Cotroceni Palace, on Saturday too. Attending the event were also state advisers on sports issues Marian Bitang and Octavian Belu, along with famous Romanian gymnasts such as Dan Grecu, Lavinia Milosevici, Simona Amanar, Maria Olaru, Maria Urzica and Marin Dragulescu.

US Junior National in the legendary Kienbaum Camp

Seven of the all together 14 members of the male national juniors team of USA visited the legendary German training camp in Kienbaum, nearby Berlin.
At this place the former GDR teams prepared for their international successes, like the last Olympic team silver medal behind the golden Soviet team in Seoul 1988.
These grounds are a super and modern training camp now for a lot of sports disciplines on a very high standard and it is also the 'training head quarter' of German gymnastic teams....

Ukraine s Elite and Italy s Juniors on top in Hamburg

Last weekend took place the 5th anniversary of the ALSTERPOKAL 2006 - this year not only an event for femal, but also for male gymnasts.
The 15 teams were come from 10 different nations:
Best in women's elite category were the Ukraine squad, followed by Sweden and Finland.
Winner in juniors category was the team from GAL Lissone, coming from Italy. Ukraine's girls came on second place, followed by the last year's winners from Cairo Gymnastics Federation (Egypt).
The best team from German host were Hamburg (elite, 4th) and the TS Hannover-Schladen (juniors, 7th) ...

Sofia MURATOVA passed away....

The former member of successful Soviet national teams in the Fifties and Sixties of the last century, Sofia MURATOVA - born 1929 in Leningrad - died this week in her hometown Moscow. The two-time Olympic all-around medallist won seven Olympic and five world championship medals from 1954 to 1960. Together with her famous husband Valentin Muratov they were one of the most decorated married couples in gymnastics, having won a combined 12 Olympic and 11 world championship medals. Muratov, 78, won four Olympic gold medals and tied for the world all-around title in 1954.
