Daria Yelizarova won the Svetlana Invitational in Houston

* Intern. gymnast  reports about the "BOGINSKAYA INVITATIONAL 2011", which was held last weekend in Houston, Texas (USA).
The competition was organized by and named for three-time Olympian Svetlana BOGINSKAY of Belarus.
Boginskaya, the 1989 world all-around champion, has lived in Texas since 1993. Competing under Level 10 scoring, Daria YELIZAROVA captured the senior title with 38.850.

Frank Bare, US Gymnasics Legend, passed away ...

* usoc-pressbox --: << Frank BARE of Warner Springs, Calif., the first executive director for the U.S. Gymnastics Federation now doing business as USA Gymnastics, died earlier today of pneumonia at the age of 80. 
Following a decorated collegiate gymnastics career at the University of Illinois that included a national NCAA pommel horse title, Bare went on to become one of the most influential men in gymnastics in the United States.
Bare was a member of the FIG’s Executive Committee from 1972-76 and served as an FIG vice president from 1976-80. He also was chairman of the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame. ...

17th Mikhail Voronin Cup 2010

The Russian all-around world champion Aliya MUSTAFINA (Russia)won the all-around and two events at the 17th Voronin Cup, wich held  in Moscow last week.
On second place came her teammate Tatiana Nabiyeva, followed by the Israelian Valeria Maksyuta. Russia's Dmitry BARKALOV won the elite's men's all-around title in front of teammate Andrei Likhovitsky and Japan's Shogo Nonomura.
The competition featured gymnasts from 23 nations from Europe, Asia, and North and South America.

The Destiny of Charlie Tamayo: Out of Cuba !

The former Cuban gymnast Charles Leon "Charlie" TAMAYO (30) is currently the most prominent displaced top sportsmen in the USA. Ten years ago, at the age of 20 he won the vault bronze medal at the Worlds in Ghent 2001 behind Marian Dragulescu ((ROU) and Evgeniy Sapronenko (LAT) and a half year later his first world cup event in Cottbus, Germany (2002).

At the 2003 Worlds in Anaheim he deserted the Cuban team and got away into the USA, but he is not just net a US host country national ...

KNGU: Epke Zonderland and Céline van Gerner gymnasts of the year 2010

Epke Zonderland and Céline van Gerner are the gymnasts of the year 2010. Junior Tess Moonen was awarded with the prize for the most talented gymnast of the year. The women’s team in artistic gymnastics has been elected team of the year. On the occasion of the New Years’ reception, the Royal Dutch Gymnastics Federation KNGU has awarded its prizes for the year 2010. A group of journalists has proceeded to the nominations. The elections were made by a jury of experts, international judges, former athletes and two professionals of the Dutch press, one of them a TV commentator. Last year, Epke Zonderland has won the silver medal at the high bar at the European Championships in Birmingham as well as at the World Championships in Rotterdam.

Olympic champ Hamm has injury, needs surgery

Paul Hamm's comeback just got a little tougher. The Olympic all-around champion (Athens 2004) champion gymnast said to the news agency "AP", that he has a torn labrum in his right shoulder and will have surgery this week. He had hoped to return to competition for the first time since 2008 at next month's Winter Cup, a U.S. ranking meet. To the US press he said in a statement through his agent.:
"This is extremely disappointing since I have come so far and was preparing to compete in February. I fully intend to rehab my shoulder with the goal of making the team and competing in the London Olympics.

First FIG Challenger Cup 2011 finished in Cottbus

With the 35th anniversary of the traditional "Turnier der Meisters" in Cottbus (Germany), which was a world cup category B event in the last decennium,
the International Gymnastics Federation starts a new circuit with the qualification rounds this Friday in Cottbus. The world cup events, graduated in two levels:
* Four World Cup events (category A) with some of the world's top stars of all-around competitions and added by six so-called "Artistic Challenge Cups", in old making individual apparatus finals.
The winners at the firts day came from China (3), and eache one from Greece and Germany.
Chinese YAO, Jinnan was the most successful gymnast, winning three of four apparatus at the end ...

The Romanian press (ProSport) wrote about the possibility of a comeback of the 2004 Olympic champion (floor exerc., team, beam) Catalina Ponor (23): The start of 2011 saw Catalina Ponor near the Olmypic gymnastics team once again. The girl from Constanta, who retired from international competition two times (2006, 2007), was testing her limits at the training centre at Izvorani. After being called back to the team after the return of Belu and Bitang, the two pathways didn’t exactly meet from start. Catalina confirmed in an article published by ProSport that Mariana Bitang had called her back to the team through an email. She, however, declined her offer in July 2010, and a comeback to gymnastics at that time seemed almost impossible. Time arranged everything ...

German Gymnast Kim Bui back in the game!

Finally, after a very long break due to an injury in February 2010, Kim Bui is back in the arena! She competed at the final of the German Bundesliga held in Berlin last weekend. Bui performed only on the uneven bars (13.35/5.3) for the Stuttgart team, which won the competition easily over the TuS Chemnitz-Altendorf’ team with Joeline Möbius, Susann Herbst, Ruby van Dijk among others. National team members Giulia Hindermann, Pia Tolle and Marie-Sophie Hindermann (beam & bars) were also part of the Turn-Team Stuttgart. All three will compete in Japan at the Toyota Cup.
