Olympian Anja Brinker Suffers Achilles Tear

More bad Luck for German Gymnastics

German Olympian Anja Brinker tore her right Achilles' tendon Sunday, ending her planned comeback at April's European championships in Berlin.
Sidelined with a foot injury in 2010, Brinker injured her Achilles while performing at the "Fireworks of Gymnastics" show at Berlin's Max-Schmeling-Halle. The 2011 European Championships take place April 4-10 at the same venue.
Brinker, who turned 20 on Jan. 18, will undergo surgery and be out of competition for at least six months, the German Gymnastics Federation (Deutscher Turner-Bund) announced.

To the German press the 23 years old Olympic bronze medallist (Beijing 2008) said: "I've  just perceived, it was a torn ligament ... but crying is not the way to help in my situation ... my long-term objective are the Olympic Games 2012!".
At the 2010 Worlds in Rotterdam Hambuechen helped Germany for the team bronze at four of sic apparatus.
Now the 23-year-old is expected to be out for six months.

480 million viewers for Oksana
Germany's silver medalist on vault, Oksana Chusovitina, was bestowed with a great honour: She was invited to the most popular talk show of Chinese television. The show is regularly being watched by 480 million (!) viewers!
The life-story of the 33-year-old gymnast and her son Alisher, who suffered from leukemia, deeply moved the Chinese audience.
So Oksana probably isn't only the most successful German gymnast at these Olympic Games but also the one with the most audience- coverage...

.... In addition to many Olympic Games fans from the USA, many British people have also travelled to Beijing, especially for the completely sold-out gymnastics events. The symbols of the Beijing Olympic Games are popular motifs for photos. After all, after a gap of 64 years London will be hosting the next Olympic Summer Games in 2012.

... what else is happening in Beijing!!

Gao Jiang, right, with the Chinese flag, together with his gymnasts. A lot of cheers were heard from the 18,000 spectators in the Olympic arena.

...What might be the reason for their happiness?

<< Oksana Chusovitina (33) and Katja Abel (24) indeed have reason to be happy. One of them, because she is the first female gymnast to have taken part in five (!!!) Olympic Games - as long ago as 1992 she won the team gold medal with the last Soviet team in history - and now in Beijing she is qualified for the vault final.

<< Katja Abel has fulfilled her dream: She managed to participate in the Olympic Games with the German team, even though not everything worked out perfectly for the team during the competition.
Now she says it's up to the younger gymnasts to take over responsibility for the team.
At the moment it's still the 33-year old Oksana Chusovitina who brought the top performances for the German team  - she reached a great 10th place in the all-around qualification!

Svetlana Chorkina, Philipp Boy

In the 1980s Canada's uneven bars queen Lori Ballard-STRONG once performed in Cottbus, thrilling the audience especially on her specialist apparatus. Together with her team-mate Michael Inglis she won the pairs competition at that event. The hand-made, carved cups which she won at that competition still have pride of place in a glass showcase in her home.
Here in Beijing she is commentating the gymnastics events for Canadian TV together with Brenda Irving.
For the women's events Svetlana Chorkina will commentate for Russian TV and also Nadia COMANECI is supposed to be coming...!

Farewell Ceremony for the DTB Women s Gymnastics Team

The German Women's Gymnastics Team for the Olympic Games, who are leaving on Friday 25 July 2008 in order to acclimatise at a training camp in Kamo-City (Japan), have now completed their "direct preparation" for competition in the Olympics at the German National Training Centre at Bergisch Gladbach.
Before the gymnasts were allowed to return to their clubs for a few days of home training, the Technical Rubber Products section of the company LANXESS AG in Leverkusen took advantage of the proximity of the National Training Centre to say a personal thank-you to the gymnasts.
What is more, the Business Unit Technical Rubber Products (BU TRP) of the LANXESS Group has extended its cooperation agreement with the Deutscher Turner-Bund for a further two years, until 31 December 2010. ...

In association with the three world-renowned gymnastics trademarksJanssen-Fritsen (NED), SPIETH Gymnastic (GER) and Eurotramp (GER), whose apparatus will be used at the Olympic Games in Beijing, Technical Rubber Products of the LANXESS Group will be supporting GYMmedia's Olympic reporting from China, which will begin in a few days' time ...

Jürgen GUNTHER, Marketing Manager atTechnical Rubber Products and Dr. Harry ZUMAQU? at the farewell ceremony in Bergisch Gladbach

"For us it is immensely important to have the Technical Rubber Products section of LANXESS as an appropriate and strong sponsorship partner. For the National Women's Team the continuation of the cooperation agreement is very important for ensuring their continued successful development,"  says DTB President Rainer Brechtken

The German Women's Gymnastics Team presents an autographed team photo

As a token of thanks for the invitation the gymnasts presented the Lanxess representatives as well as the Head of the Rhineland OSP, Michael Scharf and Susanne Strothmann of the North-Rhine-Westphalia Sports Foundation with an autographed team photo.
Further partnerships exist between Technical Rubber Products and the Rheinischer Turnerbund as well as the Cologne-based European Champion and exceptional phenomenon of the modern gymnastics era,  Oksana TSCUSSOWITINA.

For the Leverkusen-based partner Technical Rubber Products of the LANXESS  Group
it was the long-term quality of the German gymnasts, evidenced in particular by their attainment of tenth position in the World Championships in Stuttgart which enabled them to qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing, as well as Tschussowitina's winning of the title of European Vault Champion, which led to this new sponsorship agreement.
