Becky DOWNIE retains All-around and dominated the British Nationals

In absence of Beth Tweddle, starting at the Univeriade in Belgrade, Nottingham's Becky Downie has become British Senior Artistic Gymnastics Champion for the second year running with her winning score of 56.100 taking her ahead of Becky Wing of Heathrow and Marissa King of Huntingdon.
The battle of the Olympian Becky’s proved to be the highlight of the event with both girls competing in the same group, and the final result only being decided on the last piece of apparatus of the day, the floor.
Winning three of four finals Becky was the most successfully gymnast of these Nationals.
For Marissa King, her 3rd place and first ever all-around medal crowned a welcome return to the gymnastics scene for her after Beijing.
On Sunday she won also the vault final ...

Earlier in the day, Heathrow’s Nicole Hilbert made it back-to-back British Junior titles in a hotly contested battle with teammate Danusia Francis and Cardiff Centrals Lizzie Beddoe.
Nicole won with an impressive 55.050, excelling on Vault and Bars, Danusia and Lizzie tied for Silver position (53.650) with Danusia leading on Beam.
Liverpool 's Jenni Pinches would almost certainly of been up in the medals had it not been for an unfortunate landing on Vault, she gets a second chance of glory in tomorrow’s finals as she finished 1st on Floor.
Nicole Hibbert: “ I’m just really happy. I was very nervous to begin, with but once I made it on to the Floor that gradually went away and I was delighted to win.”

GREAT BRITAIN bat the age group of 12/13 years old girls and the teenies (14/15 years) of ITALY were the winners of the friendly meets of artistic gymnastic talents in Spergau, Germany, near the city of Halle in Saxonia Anhalt.

2009 Dutch Nationals of Artistic Gymnastics

Last weekend the Ahoy Arena of Rotterdam - location of the 1987 Worlds and also host of the next but one Worlds in 2010 - was the venue of the 2009 Dutch National Championships of artistic Gymnastics.
The 19 years old Lichelle WONG (55,350;TSH Heerenveen) won the senior women's all-around title, followed by Myra KROONEN (Amsterdam) and Sanne WEVERS (Almelo).
Wong, who resumed training 2009 January following shoulder surgery, said she was surprised with the victory.

The national junior title went to Céline VAN GERNER  (56,800; TSH Heerenveen).

Anthony VAN ASSCHE (Zweijndrecht) is the new Dutch all-around champion on men's side ...

Winner of the men's Dutch all-around title was Anthony VAN ASSCHE from Zwijndrecht with a score of 84,450, followed by Carlo VAN MINDE from Veldhoven (83,500) and Herre ZONDERLAND (82,600; TSH Heerenveen).
Jeffrey Wammes didn't compete at the all-around competition because his basic education at the Dutch army, but took part at three of the finals on Sunday and won at vault and high bar - in the absence of the injured Olympic finalist Epke Zonderland.

The Canadian company "Cirque du Soleil" that made it respectable to run away with the circus staged an extravaganza outside its Montreal headquarters this week:
About 900 stilt walkers from dozens of countries are to gather to celebrate an entertainment behemoth's 25th anniversary.

A young Chinese team to Universiade in Serbia
The Chinese Media agency Xinhua reported, that the most of the young Chinese delegation will make their first appearance at the 25th World University Games in Serbia. About 80 percent of the Chinese athletes have no experience of competing at major international events. The Chinese delegation was set up Friday in Beijing. A total of 438 members will compete in all the 15 events featured at the Universiade, including track and field, swimming, water polo, diving, basketball, soccer, volleyball, fencing, tennis, artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, judo, table tennis, archery and taekwondo.

Beth Tweddle amongst British University Team
British Olympian Beth Tweddle is one of ten gymnasts selected to represent Great Britain in gymnastics at the World University Games (WUGs) this year in Belgrade, Serbia from July 01 - 12.
Tweddle, Great Britain’s most decorated gymnast, is already familiar with WUGs as she brought home a gold and two bronze medals from the Games in Izmir in 2005.
Studying Health Studies at University of Liverpool, the 24-year old is looking to use the multi-sport event as preparation for the World Championships in London in October.

Loughborough graduate, Tim Sanders and Manchester Geography student, Nina Dearman both took up the sport aged six.
All athletes will be travelling to Belgrade with international experience and a majority of the gymnasts already hold Welsh, English or British Championship titles.
Matthew Greenwood, Performance Director at British Gymnastics said: "We are delighted that such a strong squad of elite gymnasts will be representing Great Britain.
The gymnasts selected will certainly be striving for medals and their great depth of experience should help them to achieve their goals in Belgrade. The strength of the British team reflects the importance of further and higher education to the development of the entire gymnastics talent pathway."

The men's artistic gymnastics coach will be Gheorghue Predescu.

After the Friday's qualification rounds the 2009 "WORLD STARS" event - identical to a FIG world cup event -the finals held Suturday in the Russian capital Moscow.

Host Russia won five golden medals - four in women's and one in men's category and altogether 10 medals.
Last year a junior yet, the Muscovite Yekaterina Kurbatova was the most successful gymnast winning on vault and uneven bars and the Dutch Sanne Weavers on beam was the only one non-Russian winner
