" Eight nations will wear shoes in their national colours, especially designed for them, for their competitions.".

25 years ago Ilse and Alfred Wahl founded the company and concentrated on producing and marketing gymnastics shoes.
Today, IWA Gymnastics is one of the leading manufacturers and biggest names in the world of artistic gymnastics.

IWA exclusivity ... with the national stripes!
At the forthcoming world championships, many teams will once again be wearing IWA shoes.
For eight countries the manufacturer from Crailsheim even has an exclusive supply agreement.
In addition to the German hosts, Russia, Belorussia, Latvia, Rumania, Switzerland, Slovakia and Ukraine will compete in limited edition artistic gymnastics shoes designed especially for them.
„The WCh is taking place practically outside our front door, so of course I wanted to create something special for our teams“, says Dieter Wahl.

About a year ago Wahl, a trained shoe designer, made the first sketches, discarded them, redesigned them and played around with the materials.
„It was my idea from the very beginning to feature the national colours.“

The question was merely how to apply the clours to the shoe attractively and in particular durably without changing the perfect characteristics and the weight of the shoe dramatically.
The solution was found about half a year ago. There was an active exchange of e-mails and designs before the new  "IWA National Stripe" was given the OK:
With shinig colours, imbossed stars for the champions and a mix of materials which adapts perfectly to the shoe.
„For the limited edition WCH shoes we have removed the red IWA stripe and concentrate entirely on the national stripes and the gold IWA logo."

In the last few weeks the new WCh collection was presented by IWA to the various WCh teams and functionaries.
„The reactions were very positive  and everybody looks forwrd to competing in their new shoes.“

The limited edition shoes wont go on sale to the public till later. "At the moment, we do not have the production capacity to manage this," Dieter Wahl says, clearly please by the considerable demand for IWA shoes in the run up to the WCH.. 
At the WCh in Stuttgart, IWA will present its products at a stand of its own, at which the national shoes can be inspected.
The specially designed WCh Fan Flag showing the German medal hopefuls Katja Abel, Oksana Chusovitina, Philipp Boy, Thomas Andergassen and Fabian Hambüchen will also be available there.
OF course both the German national teams will also be competing wearing the new IWA shoes.

The Russian Gymnastics Federation named its team for the upcoming EnBW WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2007, which will be held September 1 - 9 in Stuttgart , Germany.
Leading the team are two stars of this year's European Championships in Amsterdam, the beam champion Yulia LOZHECHKO and the men's all-around champion Maxim DEVIATOVSKY. ...
Russian Men's Team:

Police harassment of Korea's gymnasts
The South Korean national World Championships team, which had travelled to Switzerland for the triple meet of Switzerland, Korea and Puerto Rico was arrested by an overzealous policeman. The arrest came about after a woman in Bad Ragaz notified police that her purse had been stolen by a 'man of Asian appearance'. The policeman quickly arrested the first Asian to cross his way ... and continued to arrest all the other members of the Korean national team which he met subsequently...!

According to local media, the description of events by the policeman in question and the gymnasts concerned differ considerably.

The policeman, a state officer who had been loaned to the municipality of Bad Ragaz, continued in an intractable, if not to say truculent vein when contacted by the organizing committee of the meet which was trying to clarify matters: '...I am presently having my lunch. The more you badger me, the longer the proceedings will take.' (Source: "Liechtensteiner Vaterland")

The officer in chief of the region of Werdenberg/Sarganserland, Andreas Brunner, apologized for the excessive zeal of the policeman to to the OC-member Christoph Kuoni and declared himself willing to apologize in person to the South Korean team, which includes the Olympic silver medallist Kim Dae-Eun and the Olympic bronze medallist Jang Tae-Jong.
Chief of police Brunner: " .... ' I'm afraid the affair may have taken a turn which was not beneficial.'
In any case there is no doubt that the gymnasts had nothing whatsoever to do with the theft, a fact that Brunner confirmed.

The all-around fifth of last year's worlds in Aarhus, the Australian Dasha JOURA won last week's Australian trials (117,430) and leads its national team at the upcoming World Championships in Stuttgart.
Second at the trials was Lauren MITCHELL (116,997), third Chloe SIMS (114,665)...
On the men's side the Aussies may be missing reigning world high bar champion Philippe Rizzo (torn Achilles' tendon) in Stuttgart, but there are plenty of candidates jostling to take his place as team leader. The trials were won by Sam SIMPSON.  The Australia men placed 14th at the 2006 Worlds....

Germany nominates its Worlds Team 
In the evening in Schaffhausen the men's triple meet took place:
The Romanian men's team was also the best and won with a score of exactly 365,00 points, followed by Germany (360,300) and the host Switzerland (354,100).

Best all-around was the bronze medallist of the last worlds in Aarhus, the German Fabian HAMBUECHEN, with a score of 91,850.
In second place came the Romanian Razvan SELARIU (90,850) and in third his teammate  Daniel POPESCU (90,600).
Popescu earned the highest score of the competition: 16.600 on vault!

Of course, the victory of the Rumanian national team in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, with 238,150 points, had been expected, but Germany ranked in second place with a difference of  1.45 points only; they also beat the Rumanian favorites on vault ( 58.45 : 57,75) and also on uneven bars (61,35 : 57,80).

Olympic Champion Catalina PONOR earned the highest score on balance beam (16.300 - team result: 63.100), but teammate Steliana NISTOR was the best all-around with 60.100 points, in front of Sandra IZBASA (ROU; 59,400) and Oksana CHUSOVITINA (GER; 59.100) ...

Schweizerinnen bei Siegerehrung "vergessen" ...
Mit einem Mehrländerkampf in der mittelitalienischen Hafenstadt Civitavecchia - u.a.  mit Mehrkampfweltmeisterin Vanessa Ferrari und der rumänischen Riege - begann auch für die Schweizer Kunstturnerinnen am Samstag der Countdown im Hinblick auf die WM in Stuttgart (1. bis 9. September).

Comback einer dreifachen Olympiasiegerin
Erwartungsgemäß hieß dort die Reihenfolge RUMÄNIEN, vor ITALIEN und FRANKREICH. Die Tschechische Mannschaft konnte sich um 0,45 Punkten noch vor den Schweizerinnen und vor Ägypten platzieren.
Weltmeisterin Vanessa FERRARI erzielte als Mehrkampfbeste die hohe Punktzahl von 62,10 Punkten. Die Schweizerin Ariella KAESLIN machte ihren bislang besten Wettkampf und belegte einen sensationellen vierten Rang - ... peinlicher Weise hatte man sie zur Siegerehrung aber "vergessen"; und die 19-jährige rumänische Olympiasiegerin Catalina PONOR startete an drei Geräten ein gelungenes Comeback...

Die Rumänin Steliana NISTOR kam mit  59,800 Punkten auf Rang zwei und die französische Noch-Juniorin Marine PETIT wurde mit 58,650 Punkten Dritte.

Oberpeinlich...!
Nur ein Zehntel dahinter klassierte sich die Schweizerin Ariella KAESLIN, die ihre Fähigkeiten als Allrounderin erneut unter Beweis stellte. Beim Sprung erzielte sie u.a. das drittstärkste Resultat, hätte also da sogar - bei dem sonst glänzend organisierten Wettkampf, der sogar auf einem Podium stattfand auf's Treppchen gehört, aber:
Erst auf Nachfrage aus dem Schweizer Lager entdeckte man, dass man die Punkte der Schweizerinnen schlichtweg "vergessen" hatte...!
Ariella nahm's gelassen, hatte sie doch selbst von den drei Top-Nationen nur je einer Turnerin den Vortritt gelassen.

Ponor, ...schon so gut wie fit für die WM?

Comeback von Olympiasiegerin Catalina Ponor
Durchaus gelungen und vor ca. 1.000 Zuschauern in der ausverkauften Halle von Civitavecchia präsentierte sich der rumänische Superstar. Die kurz vor der WM 20 Jahre alt werdende junge Dame, trat an drei Geräten aber durchaus eindrucksvoll an: Höchstnoten an Sprung - 14,75 und Balken - 16,30, wobei es am Boden generell schwierig is, duch E-Teile Substanz anzubieten...  - aber auch figürlich machte sie 6 Wochen vor der WM einen sehr sportlichen, gut austrainierten Eindruck!
Daniele Englert machte als zweitbeste Schweizerin auch keinen schlechten Eindruck, wenn gleich sie immer ein wenig vom Pech verfolgt zu sein scheint: So stand sie eigentlich ihren Doppelsalto vw. am Boden eigentlich schon - prallte dann doch noch von der Matte ab - und saß unglücklicher Weise auf dem Hosenboden....!
Insgesamt aber Steigerung der Eidgenössinnen, die im Übrigen mit zwei Juniorinnen im Team starteten (Lucia Tachelli und Yasmin Zimmermann), in jedem Falle, die Summe der kleinen Fehler muss nun beim "Feinschliff" noch entscheidend reduzieren müssen.
So gingen die Tschechinnen, die zur WM in Aarhus 2006  noch klar zurück lagen, diesmal mit einem knappen halben Punkt vorbei - aber man sieht sich ja in Kürze wieder, beim Länderkampf in Tschechien und gegen die Britinnen, am 4. August. ...!

STV - das Neueste aus der TURN-SCHWEIZ:
Nach dem Breitensport mit dem Eidgenössischen Turnfest in Frauenfeld und der Welt-Gymnaestrada in Dornbirn steht in den nächsten Wochen auch in der Schweiz der Spitzensport mit dem Kunstturnen im Vordergrund.
Normalerweise gehören die Monate Juli und August im Kunstturnen kurzen Ferien sowie dem Aufbautraining.
Weil die WM in Stuttgart - zugleich Olympia-Ausscheidungswettkampf für Olympia 2008 in Peking -  bereits in der ersten Septemberwoche stattfindet, wurde das ganze Vorbereitungsprogramm vorverschoben.

... Blick in die Turn-Schweiz:
WM-Vorbereitungscamp an WM-Originalgeräten
Trainiert wird ab dieser Woche in Magglingen – mit Ausnahmen – nicht mehr in der Jubiläumshalle, sondern in der Grosssporthalle „End der Welt“.
>> Neue „Spieth“-Geräte wurden montiert, die danach auch an den Länderkämpfen in der Schweiz eingesetzt werden. Wichtig ist – vor allem für die jungen Kunstturnerinnen ohne grosse internationale Erfahrung –, dass sie sich an die Dimensionen einer grossen Halle analog der Schleyer-Halle in Stuttgart gewöhnen können.
Die Schweizer WM-Mannschaften werden aufgrund von internen Ausscheidungen sowie den internationalen Wettkämpfen nominiert.
>> Bei den Männern, die in Stuttgart als Ziel einen zwölften Platz und damit die Olympiaqualifikation anstreben, können sich ein Dutzend Turner Chancen auf eine Selektion ausrechnen.

- 11. August: Schweiz – Deutschland – Rumänien in Schaffhausen

Weltmeisterin und Titelverteidigerin Ferrari - am Wochenende in Aktion

>> Bei den Schweizer Frauen ist die Auswahl kleiner.
Auch Juniorinnen des Jahrgangs 1992 haben Chancen auf eine Selektion.
Am Samstag (21. Juli 2007) kommt in es Civitavecchia bei Rom zu einem interessanten Sechsländerkampf, u.a.  mit der Welt- und Europameisterin Vanessa Ferrari.
