The Jordanian gymnast Ali Al Asi Best Arab Athlete 2010

The Jordanian gymnast Ali Al Asi has been just crowned Best Arab Athlete 2010 by HE Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Governor of Dubai and Deputy of the United Arab Emirates, at its recent meeting in Dubai.
With this award, Ali goes down as a legend in Arab sports.
He owes this honour to his outstanding Rings results for the 2010 season and, more particularly, to the title he claimed over Japan’s Kazuki Machida, China’s Hong Kong native Kiu Chung Ng and the Netherlands’ Jeffrey Wammes at the 2010 FIG World Cup in Qatar.
The Best Athlete 2010 jury selected the Jordanian gymnast from among 132 Arab athletes from a variety of disciplines in contention for this prestigious award.

28. DTB-Pokal: All Finals in one day

All six medal decisions at MAG, as well as the four women’s finals took place in only one day at the Porsche arena in Stuttgart:
As a concession to the German TV station ARD, the organizers changed the Olympic apparatus order starting with the high bar and the German spectators directly had reasons to cheer:
Philipp BOY, fourth on this apparatus and silver medalist at the last World Championship’s all-around won with 15,900 points his first World Cup title: “It was already time to win something, because I wasn’t always as relaxed as I’m now and I start to have fun…” told BOY afterwards.
At the women’s decisions, World Champion on floor Lauren MITCHELL was impossible to beat. She left Anna DEMENTJEVA from Russia on the second rank followed by the best German gymnast Elisabeth SEITZ.

** ... Men's Finals:
On floor Eleftherios KOSMIDIS only came on third rank. Despite the highest difficulty (6.5) he showed too much securities at the end of his acro lines. His strongest competitor, Alexander SHATILOV (ISR) took advantage of this and came ahead of the Greek. The Israeli gymnast missed the medal in Rotterdam, but in Stuttgart he beat the world champion and won with 15,125 points. On third place came Daniel PURVIS from great Britain. Thomas Taranu placed sixth in this final.
   >> Final Floor, men

The actual world champion on pommel horse, Krisztian BERKI from Hungary, dominated this apparatus final and beat Robert SELIGMAN (CRO) and Donna Donny TRUYENS from belgium who placed seventh in Rotterdam. German Sebastian Krimmer ranked fifth.
  > Final Pommel Horse

At rings there was a Russian double triumph winning Alexander BALANDIN (15,425) head of Konstantin PLUSCHNIKOv (15,275). Danny PINHEIRO-RODRIGUES (15,100) came on third rank.
   > Final Rings

Marius BERBECAR from Romania won at vault with two clean jumps ahead of the Dutch Jeffrey WAMMES who had the highest difficulty but got more deductions, and Andrei ISSAJEW from the Ukraine placed. Thomas TARANU placed fifth.
>> Final Vault, men

At parallel bars, Mitja PETKOVSEK won with a clean routine (difficulty 6.2) ahead of the Asian bar artist, the Chinese WANG, Guanyin, who showed a higher difficulty (6.8) but had problems with the “Tippelt”. Phillip BOY placed third, a warm-up for the high bar final...
   >> Final Parallel Bars

At the high bar, Philipp BOY was the best. He is surely the gymnast who did the biggest change and progress during the last year: in the past he seemed stressed and nervous and now he surprises with coolness.
For this year there is only one national competition left and then some free days to get new strength for the European Championships 2011, where we can expect a lot from the young German team.
Gael DA SILVA
(FRA) and Jeffrey WAMMES placed second and third...

* GYMfamily Event* PREVIEW: 16th ASIAN GAMES 2010

Friday, the 16th ASIAN GAMES 2010 were opened in capital of the Guangdong province Guangzhou, in China with an Opening Ceremony that  surprised the world.....!
Held every four years (15th Asiad Doha, 2006) among athletes from all over Asia, the Asian Games, also known as "A s i a d", are considered the second largest multi-sport event after the Olympic Games, and this month will feature its 16th edition.
The Official Supplier of  the gymnastics events, Janssen-Fritsen, supports a special GYMmedia reports of this Asian highlight  ...

Opening Ceremony

Olympic diving champion He Chong ignited a giant firework whose flare shot up and lit the cauldron.
The Asiad flame returned to Guangzhou on Nov 5 after being relayed in Beijing, Harbin, Changchun, Haiyang and 21 cities across Guangdong Province.
Before the lighting of the cauldron, Afghanistan headed the athlete parade, which was concluded by host China with Olympic women's rowing champion Jin Ziwei as the flag bearer.
Befitting a city and a continent whose very foundations depend on the convergence of land and water, the Opening Ceremony centred on the river, its islands and its riverbanks. Before the nearly 30,000 spectators on Haixinsha Island saw the athletes and officials, ten of thousands of ordinary Guangzhou residents had welcomed the Games to their city as the 45 participating delegations sailed down the Pearl River from White Swan Bay.
Film star Zhang Ziyi and pianist Lang Lang performed in a water-themed arts show that marked Guangzhou's history as China's gateway to the ancient Maritime Silk Road.
At last Games in Doha, China headed the table with 166 gold medals, followed by South Korea into the second with 58 and Japan third with 50.
Thirty-five Olympic gold medalists, including 110-metre hurdler Liu Xiang and badminton ace Lin Dan, spearhead the 1,454-member Chinese delegation.
The Guangzhou Games are the largest ever Asian Games featuring 28 Olympic and 14 non-Olympic sports with 476 gold medals up for grabs. The Games will see the debuts of cricket, dance sports, dragon boat racing, roller sports and Go chess.
Guangdong Province built and renovated more than 70 stadiums. The air and water quality in Guangzhou has been improved, its transportation system updated and barrier-free facilities in place. Some 900,000 volunteers will go all out to ensure a comfortable and safe environment for the audience and athletes.
The Asian Games has urged Guangzhou residents to behave in a more civilised manner as a massive education campaign was launched shortly after the city won the hosting rights in 2004.
Guangzhou officials have handed out one million brochures and sent 40 million text messages to teach its citizens better manners and even how to smile.
The Asian Games will run through November 27.
