* British gymnastics --: World Champion gymnast Beth Tweddle, has set up a new organisation, "Total Gymnastics", to enable young people of all abilities to join in gymnastics, learn the fundamental movement skills and develop their talent.
Total Gymnastics will operate through Academies that will be registered BG clubs and venues. "Clearly the success of this venture will depend on the quality of our coaches and we are currently beginning recruitment. We are looking for dedicated and passionate British Gymnastics qualified coaches who are looking for extra coaching hours as of October 2010", said Beth.

Fatal negligence: MARIAN DRAGULESCU WARNED!

*fig --: The F.I.G. office published today, that a severe warning has been issued to Romanian gymnast Marian Dragulescu for failing to comply with the procedures governing the fight against doping.
Three indictments were filed against the gymnast, namely concerning violation of a rule stipulating that a gymnast must announce his return to competition after a retirement, a communication made regarding Marian Dragulescu by his national federation on December 30, 2008. Because of his failure to comply with this rule, Dragulescu was not taken into account for out of competition testing since he was not on the 2009 FIG RTP (Registered Testing Pool) official list.

The Commission has found little or no whereabouts information for the first three trimesters of 2010. In defiance of the rules in force, the athlete in question participated in the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in London 2009, where he took two world titles on Vault and Floor.
Marian Dragulescu, who stood alone before the Disciplinary Commission on July 30, ...
... was informed of the decisions and considerations corroborated by the FIG Presidential Commission, who pointed out a wilful negligence on the part of the Romanian Gymnastics Federation in the administrative handling of Dragulescu’s career and a failure to uphold its educational role in the fight against doping.
Court costs will be paid by the Romanian Federation. To conclude, the FIG has shown leniency to Dragulescu; however, in the event of a subsequent offence the gymnast will be subject to a suspension of one to two years.
These sanctions serve as a warning to the entire gymnastics community; education is taken seriously by the FIG and compliance with the procedures in force and the upholding of one’s responsibilities in the fight against doping is mandatory.

Qualification rounds of male gymnasts ...

The 16 / 17 year-old gymnasts formed the start of the YOG-gymnastics competitionon Monday the 16. August.
The starting field consisted of 41 young athletes from the same number of nations. The best all-around competitor was the Japanese Yuya KAMOTO (< photo, left), who with 87,200 points and 0,35 points advantage pushed the junior- European champion Sam OLDHAM from Great Britain onto 2nd place. 
The German representative Daniel WEINERT managed as the 15. the all-around final, which the Swiss Oliver HEGi in 19. position missed by only 0,05 points...

Due to the withdrawal of Colombia’s Jhonny Munoz, who injured his shoulder during training on Rings this past Saturday, the universal field was left with 41 competitors representing as many countries from all continents. Split into two subdivisions, the gymnasts went through all six rotations, hailed by the many enthusiastic spectators who have come to Bishan to get a first glance of Youth Olympic gymnastic action.
And they weren’t disappointed!

* The first subdivision featured some of the anticipated favourites from gymnastic power houses Japan, China, Russia, Romania and the United States of America.
Yuya Kamoto (JPN) led the All-around standings after this first heat with a total of 87.200 points, followed by China’s Zhu Xiaodong (86.100) and Russian Daniil Kazachkov (85.400). The trio headed the field early on, and while Zhu and Daniil battled it out on Horizontal Bar in the last rotation, Yuya competed last on Floor, providing excitement to the end. He impressed with consistency and clean execution of his routines, setting the bar high for the competitors of the second subdivision.
In Individual apparatus, Spaniard Nestor Abad was an eye catcher, taking his place among the top three on Floor, Vault and Horizontal Bar. Nestor did well overall until he fell off the Pommel Horse twice in the last rotation; unfortunate. As a consequence, he dropped in the All-around ranking and failed to make the cut. Nevertheless, he secured spots in the mentioned Apparatus Finals and on Rings.

Romania’s Andrei Muntean topped subdivision 1 on Rings and Mongolian Erdenebold Ganbat as well as Weena Chokpaoumpai of Thailand impressed fans on Vault, where they ranked a provisional two and three respectively.
Robert Tvorogal (LTU) wowed spectators on Horizontal Bar, where he took the lead with a score of 14.150. Interestingly, Robert is the youngest male Artistic gymnast competing here in Singapore (born October 5, 1994), while Weena is the oldest (born January 1, 1993).

* The second subdivision lined up a number of gymnasts who ranked among the top eight qualifiers at their respective Continental Championships: Ernesto Vila Sarria (CUB), Robert Watson (CAN), Ryan Ratterson (RSA), Sam Oldham (GBR) and Thomas Neuteleers (BEL). Sam is currently the reigning Junior European Champion and has high expectations for these Games. The locals gave special support to Singapore’s Timothy Tay.
And what about Oleg Stepko? The young Ukrainian was unable to participate in the qualifying Junior European Championships in Birmingham (GBR) due to the volcanic ash cloud over Europe, but he was attributed one of the universality places for Singapore.
Sam and Oleg quickly proved their excellence with clean and fascinating routines all throughout; they placed second and third behind Yuya Kamoto (JPN) in the All-around Qualification. Sam scored an overall 86.850 and Oleg followed closely with 86.800 points.
Zhu and Daniil were pushed down to fourth and fifth rank. Andrei (ROU) was tied by Ernesto (CUB) with a 83.800 point score as both tried to maintain a lifeline to the top. Robert from Canada became the public’s darling and secured his spot for the Finals in a comfortable eleventh place. Of the remaining qualifiers, most of which are European, Eduard Shaulov of Uzbekistan and Amr Ahmed of Egypt stand out. Amr, the 2010 African Junior All-around Champion qualified in last position.

Oleg simply shone when he performed the most difficult routine on Pommel Horse tonight; flawlessly executed. He leads the field to the Apparatus Final. Although he prefers Pommel Horse, Mexican Javier Cervantes was most convincing on Vault, performing two solid routines that placed him second behind Nestor (ESP).
Thomas Neuteleers qualified in 8th position for the All-around and secured spots for the Floor and Parallel Bars Finals. On Horizontal Bar, Robert from Lithuania was outscored only by Great Britain’s Sam in the second subdivision, while Brody-Jai Hennessy secured Australia’s participation in the Final, placing 8th.
* The boys continue their competitions in Wednesday’s All-around Final and the Apparatus Finals on August 21 and 22.

The I. YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES 2010 take place from August 14 - 26 in Singapore and are a novelty in the Olympic history. Initiated by  Dr. Jacques Rogge, the European Olympic Committees launched the "European Youth Olympic Days" (EYOD, now called EYOF ) - the only multi sports event on this continent. This event is a novelty in the history also of the worldwide Olympic movement now, for the first time. About 3,600 young athletes between the ages of 14 and 18 from aproximately 200 nations came together in Singapore.
Amongst them were also the participants of the 3 Olympic gymnastics disciplines, whose competitions are equiped with the apparatus of the Dutch company "Janssen-Fritsen" .

2004 Olympic Champion Paul Hamm plans a Comeback

... will Hamm saddle again the horse?

The Houston Chronical reports this week, that the 2004 all-around Olympic gold medalist Paul HAMM (27) plans to return to competition 2011 January in hopes of qualifying for the USA Gymnastics men's national team and competing at the 2012 London Olympics.
Paul Hamm said to the media, that he has left his job in the financial industry and hopes to train at his old gym in his hometown of Waukesha, Wis., (USA) or at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. His likely first competition would be next January at the 2011 Winter Cup meet in Las Vegas.

Hamm competed at the Olympics in 2000 and in 2004, when he won the men's all-around ( ... by 0.012 points, the closest finish in men's Olympics history!) but then had to deal with controversy after it was revealed that he benefited from scoring errors for one of his competitors. 
He qualified for the 2008 team but had to withdraw because of a hand injury.

Hamm said he will decide later this year whether to train in Wisconsin with his former coach, Stacy Maloney, or to move to Colorado Springs.
He started general weight training and cardiovascular work this spring and spent some time in the gym before suffering a sprained right shoulder, which has limited recent workouts to strength training and recovery. 
All-around asset Hamm said he will train all six events and believes his versatility can contribute to the U.S. team, especially since the International Gymnastics Federation has reduced team sizes from six gymnasts to five.
"There's a very large chance that I don't win the Olympic gold medal (in 2012), but I still think I can produce some great gymnastics and help the team and go after a gold medal", Hamm said.

Mattie Larson of Los Angeles, Calif., won the senior all-around competition at the 2010 CoverGirl Classic at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Ill..
In the junior session earlier at Saturday, July 24, 2010 Pacific Rim Championships junior all-around champion Jordyn Wieber of DeWitt, Mich., won the junior all-around title.
With an all-around score of 57.150, Larson, who trains at All Olympia Gymnastics, claimed the senior all-around title with a second place finish on floor exercise (14.600) and a fourth place finish on vault (14.700).
Cincinnati Gymnastics’ Amanda Jetter of Milford, Ohio, was second in the all-around at 56.800. Illinois native Mackenzie Caquatto of Naperville/Legacy Elite Gymnastics, finished third in the all-around, posting a 56.450, and landed in second on vault (14.850) and bars (15.050).

2008 Olympic team silver-medalist Alicia Sacramone of Winchester, Mass., made her first competitive appearance since the Olympics in Beijing and won her the two events she competed in – beam (14.900) and vault (15.800).

2009 World and U.S. all-around champion Bridget Sloan of Pittsboro, Ind., took second on beam (14.700). 2009 Pacific Rim Championships senior all-around champion and World all-around silver-medalist Rebecca Bross of Plano, Texas, won the bars title (15.450). Hill’s Kytra Hunter of Frederick, Md., won the floor exercise title (14.650) and finished third on vault (14.800) and beam (14.650). Cassandra Whitcomb of Cincinnati, Ohio/Cincinnati Gymnastics, was third on the uneven bars (14.800) and floor (14.350).

The 2010 CoverGirl Classic was the final women’s gymnastics qualifying event for the 2010 Visa Championships, Aug. 10-14, in Hartford, Conn.
The field showcased a combination of gymnasts attempting to qualify for the Visa Championships and those who have already qualified and are using the event as a tune-up.

Last weekend the Swiss Olympic Champion on pommel horse (1996, Atlanta) 
Chinese provenance, Donghua Li, pushed to his envelope at the so called  "Wake&Jam-Festival" at Murtensee (Switzerland): 
At the "Blob-Jumping" he risked boldly jumps into the cool wet, but the effekt was: a disruption of his drumhead and a ban aof bathing for the next weeks ...

New Board Members of Spanish Gymnastics

<< Recently retired Spanish star and Olympic vault champion 2000 and 2004 and Olympic silver medallist on floor in Beijing (2008), Gervasio Deferr, has joined the new board of directors for Spain's gymnastics federation, which is seeking a complete overhaul following a year of scandal.

Other members of the new board include businessmen, technical and regional representatives and Olympians Alfonso Rodríguez de Sadia (1984, 1988 and 1992), Laura Muñoz (1984 and 1988) and Alejandro Barreneche (2004).
One week before, the federation appointed Belarusian Anna Baranova as new head coach of the rhythmic team. The previous coach, Bulgarian Efrossina Angelova, is suing the federation over her dismissal.


With all these personal adopted measures "the new president  of the Spanish Gymnastics Federation Jesus CARBALLO, jr. " ... intends to restore the public image of the Royal Spanish Gymnastics Federation, which had deteriorated after several months of infighting and public mudslinging following the management and subsequent resignation of Antonio Esteban," the Spanish federation stated.
