Last honours for Pierre Chabloz, Honorary President of the UEG

On Monday, December 8th, 2008, a large crowd came to La Tour-de-Peilz (SUI) to honour Pierre Chabloz - founder of the European Gymnastics Union and Honorary Member of the FIG - a last time.
They came from Switzerland and many different European countries. Chabloz passed away last week after an on-going illness.

The Swiss and international gymnastics community met on Monday afternoon at the church of La Tour-de-Peilz where Chabloz was born and lived nearly all his life ...
Pierre Chabloz – a life for gymnastics
Pierre Chabloz, born on December 9th, 1916, became an active member of the gymnastics association of La Tour-de-Peilz (SUI) on March 20th, 1933.
After having spent some time in the German part of Switzerland, he became a lifelong member of the gymnastics association “Amis Gymnastes Lausanne” in 1948.
Activities on a regional and national level From 1933 to 1963, Pierre Chabloz has assumed many different functions on a local and regional level, not only in the administration but also as a technician. But gymnastics was not his only passion as he loved shooting.

In 1963 he became member of the Gymnastics Association of the Canton de Vaud and chaired at the same time the Gymnastics Union of the French speaking part of Switzerland.
Monday, December 08 - Mourning Ceremony ...
The Swiss and international gymnastics community met on Monday afternoon at the church of La Tour-de-Peilz where Chabloz was born and lived nearly all his life.

The FIG was represented by Vice President Dr. Michel Léglise (FRA), Hans-Jürgen Zacharias (GER), former FIG Vice President and founding member of the UEG, and Secretary General André Gueisbuhler.
UEG President Dimitrios Dimitropoulos (GRE), Vice Presidents Paul Garber (GBR) and Georges Guelzec (FRA), Jeanne Beaume (FRA) founding member and UEG Vice President under the presidency of Pierre Chabloz, Walter Nyffeler (SUI) former UEG Vice President and Manfred Kucht, UEG Director, attended the committal service along with representatives of the Swiss Gymnastics Federation, Swiss Olympic and several local associations.
Former gymnasts, international judges and coaches were also present.
Pierre Chabloz was an attentive and benevolent advisor. All came to show their friendship, deep respect for and gratitude to Pierre Chabloz to his family. He will remain in the hearts of each person present for years to come.

Focus on gymnast safety

* f i g --: The FIG Apparatus Commission gathered on November 29-30 at the FIG Head Office for its second meeting in 2008.

President of the Commission Nicolae Vieru (ROU) and his colleagues Jvan Weber (SUI) and Ludwig Schweizer (GER, photo left) met with apparatus manufacturer representatives Hiro Hirabayashi (Senoh) and Jay Ashmore (AAI) to focuse their attention on gymnast safety, a topic on last weekend’s agenda.
Schweizer, who conducted a study at the Olympic Games in Beijing, reported that installations for gymnastic disciplines were excellent.
Any and all weak points detected at the pre-events were corrected at the actual Games.

Finally, the Commission discussed greater protection around the vaulting board safety collar for Artistic Gymnastics. A study will be conducted in March of 2009 in collaboration with FIG equipment partners in order to improve flexibility and safety.

Schweiz wechselt gesamte Trainer-Crew aus!

"Im Leistungszentrum in Magglingen weht bald ein neuer Wind", so jedenfalls kommentierte die Schweizer Presse den heftigen Wechsel des gesamten Trainerteams im Bereich Männer Kunstturnen, und:
Seit langem wird mit Beni Fluck (52) wieder ein Schweizer Cheftrainer im europäischen Turn-Traditionsland an der Spitze stehen:
Der neue Chef Bernhard «Beni» Fluck betreute bisher den Nachwuchs. Er war Trainer jener Junioren-Riege, die an den Europameisterschaften 2002 in Patras hinter Russland sensationell die Silbermedaille errungen hatte. Mit Ausnahme von Christoph Schärer und Roger Sager sind alle jetzigen Kaderturner durch seine Schule gegangen. ....


Der angelaufene olympische Zyklus wird mit einem neuen Trainerteam angegangen.
Bernhard Fluck, (geb. 12. Mai 1956, Eschenz, Schweizer Staatsbürger) wurde zum neuen Cheftrainer Kunstturnen Männer gewählt. Er wird die Stelle per 1.1.2009 antreten. Das Trainerteam wird in Absprache mit dem neuen Cheftrainer zusammengestellt und zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt kommuniziert.

<< Bernhard Fluck ist seit 2001 beim Schweizerischen Turnverband als Chef Nachwuchs tätig und hat während dieser Zeit unter anderem die Turner auf die Junioren-Europameisterschaften vorbereitet und an diesen Wettkämpfen betreut:

* SCHWEIZER PRESSEECHO:Auch die Schweizer Presse würdigt die Leistungen in der Ära von Cheftrainer Kiraly, der seit seit 1997 in der Schweiz tätig ist, seit 2003 als Verantwortlicher für den gesamten Männer-Turnsport.
Er erzielte einige bemerkenswerte Erfolge, so den Gewinn von zwei EM- Bronzemedaillen durch Christoph Schärer und einen 8. Rang mit der Mannschaft an den WM 2006 in Aarhus, dem besten Resultat seit der Aera Jack Günthard.

Nearly all qualifiers for the 14th Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Final from 13th to 14th dezember in Madrid (ESP) have been identified. A few names remain unknown on the women’s start list, however, but confirmation is expected over the next few days.

The Russian gymnast Anna PAWLOWA, at the this year OLYMPIC GAMES   in Bejing (China) with a furiosely comeback, is unsure she can return to competition:

In november in Stuttgart (Germany) she dismounting after a jump of balance beam. Succession: laceration on crucial ligament.

"The situation is ernst"
, said the 20 years old Pavlova. "The exact diagnosis, I cannot say, but it seems to be serious enough. I don't even know when I can leave, as everything will depend on how my body heals. We don't even talk about training again in the near future. Without a doubt, it won't be in the next six months."

Nastia Liukin appears on Gossip Girl

Olympic gymnastics all-around gold medalist 2008 in Beijing (China) NASTIA LIUKIN makes her short but sweet appearance tonight on the popular-among-young-women television series "Gossip Girl". In Season 2 - "It´s a Wunderful Lie". The show is at 8 p.m. on the CW network.

Nastia Liukin
(USA) appears briefly at the Snowflake Ball, the annual winter dance held at the private New York academy where much of the show's drama takes place.

She said that her "Gossip Girl" appearance lasts "five or 10 seconds" and that the highlights of being on the show were meeting stars Leighton Meester (Blair) and Ed Westwick (Chuck) and getting to wear a BCBGMaxAzria gown on the show...

Japanese dominated international Future Cup

At the 5th international "Austrian Future Cup" in Linz (Austria) with 86 gymnasts from 14 nations Japanese won three of altogether four competitions.
Winner on "U 18"-competition was YUYA KAMATO with 83,15 points followed by GILLES GENTGES (Belgium, 80.650) and MATHEW HENNESSEY (Great Britain, 78.650).
The 14 years old KAMATO shake off the nearly four years older rivals...

4th ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS 2008Japanese Women with altogether four Gold Medals!

Also in women's category Japan is the best nation of these 4th ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS of Artistic Gymnastics 2008 which were continue at the Sunday's team and all-around decision and all the finals:
Japan's women's team won gold with a score of 231,800 points clearly in front of the national team of the Republic of Korea (212,050), followed by Singapore (188,850). Only six complete teams - without China and North-Korea - participated at this event. The all-around decision was won by Kouko TSURIMI (59,700).
The silver medal went to the North-Korean  UN HYANG, Kim (PRK; 58,300), followed by the second Japanese, Miki UEMURA (JPN; 57,700).
