"Gymnastics in Gran Canaria brings people together"
The "47th Festival BLUME-Gran Canaria 2007" from November 27th to December 2nd 2007 will once again bring together thousands of sportsmen and -women, young people and senior citizens, top class, hobby and handicapped gymnasts from Europe and beyond on the Island of Everlasting Spring.
"There is no better place to act as a EU-ambassoador of the Year of Equal Opportunity than during this 'Festival of Hearts'!' - says Ronny Ziesmer, who is also an ambassador for this globally unique happy gymnastics event, which unites all the participants through sporting activities. Evaluation and competition have no importance at this festival, where people meet to get to know each other, talk about their experiences, and share and active and exciting holiday. 'What impressed me most where the many shows put on by the various participating groups' says Ziesmer, a former member of the German national gymnastics team who is now confined to a wheel chair and who took part in the festival two years ago....

"2. INTERNATIONAL GYMNASTICS FESTIVAL 50+"
As last year, the organizers led by Jesus TELO will combine the BLUME-Festival which commemorates the Spanish four-times European champion who died in an accident in 1957 "2nd International Gymnastics Festival 50 +", which was so sensationally successful with the senior sportspeople who love travel and gymnastics and has now become a fixture in the calendar of happy gymnastics.Guests from 16 countries came last year to participate in workshops, presentations, to meet each other and enjoy the palmlined beach in weather perfect for bathing weather...!

Just before the grand jubilee of the half-century, the 47th BLUME-GRAN CANARIA has long become the biggest happy gymnastics event organized by the Spanish gymnastics association (R.F.E.G.) and a unique sporting meet of people of different age groups, perspectives and physical abilities.

A 50th Anniversary on the Spanish Island Gran Canaria...

In the days of May, Las Palmas (ESP) will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the Las Palmas Sport Centre, a project brought to fruition through the imagination and pugnacity of its founder, Jesus Telo Nunez.
In 1956, Nunez opened the largest national training centre on the island, opening its doors to some thirty young gymnasts. All kinds of activities were practised from gymnastics to judo.
Today he and his son Jesus Telo jun. look behind a more than 45 years tradition of a unique "Festival with Heart", the BLUME FESTIVAL Gran Canaria, which will held to the 46th time at the end of 2006....

... in memory of Joaquim BLUME

Joaquim Blume died, but his memory is alive to this day, for Jesus Telo didn't give up; he took up the torch and dedicated the event to the memory of his deceased friend.
The famous Blume Memorial was born.....!

The 2006 edition of "46th BLUME FESTIVAL Gran Canaria" will be held November 25 - December 8. Jesus Telo is still at the wheel, heading up one of the most prestigious events on the FIG General Gymnastics Calendar.

Various Spanish groups and also groups of the 850 foreign guests from 14 countries presented their performances in a several-hour long gala. Many further performances will be seen during the week in various different venues on the island....

The 18-times Swiss parallel bars team champion of the club SGF Chiasso takes part in the BLUME- Festival for the first time.

A presentation of vitality

The team from the Italian part of Switzerland - in which also the famous 'Artur Gander Memorial' is being organised - has a lot of experiences in festival participations: They already performed in Rigazzone (ITA), Osaka (JPN) and two times in Portugal. This is now their first participantion in the BLUME- Festival. At the opening they presented a mixture of dance (photo) and men's artistic gymnastics (- photos will follow later in 'impressions').
This group from Chiasso consists of 24 members and they are 18-times Swiss Champion in the in Switzerland so called 'section gymnastics'.

It is already a tradition that British teams participate in the BLUME- Festival.
The audience cheered a lot for the pyramids of the 'Riverside Display Gymnastics Team'.

Ronny Ziesmer - Ambassador for BLUME Gran Canaria

Ronny Ziesmer, the former German gymnast who is paraplegic since an accident during training in summer 2004, has agreed to be the international “ambassador” for the 45th Festival BLUME Gran Canaria 2005. The festival was founded at the end of the 50ies and was devoted to Joaquim BLUME, the European Champion in artistic gymnastics who was killed in an accident. The proposal was made to Ronny Ziesmer by the Organising Committee surprisingly during a live interview with the radio station 'Radio Atlantico'.
In future Ronny should be a link between elite and recreational sports and help to create further attention for the Festival BLUME Gran Canaria in which participate as well top- stars of gymnastics as also many participants who do recreational gymnastics or sports for handicaped persons.

The people in Spain follow Ronny Ziesmer’s visit with great attention. Also they were full of consternation when they heard of Ronny’s accident in the summer of 2004!

The main radio station of the Canary Islands 'Radio Atlantico' broadcasted a one-hour long program regarding the topic 'Festival BLUME Gran Canaria.

Ronny during a live- interview with a Canary radio station

Although I don’t know yet what my exact tasks will be, I of course accept this offer and will try to commit to it accordingly. This festival is about the complex idea of intenational gymnastics, and I’m looking forward to be a link between elite and recreational sports.

Jesus Telo welcomes Ronny Ziesmer on the Plaza des Maspalomas which is located right in the touristic centre of Playa del Ingeles in the south of the island.

The local administrations have acknowledged the Festival for quite a while already as an attractive enrichment of the cultural offers for the guests on the island and there are tourists who especially choose to make their holidays during “BLUME- time”…

After their performance young gymnasts of the 'Camberwell Gymnastics Clubs' congratulate Ronny to his new role as Festival- ambassador BLUME GRAN CANARIA

Also for Ronny it is perfectly being taken care of during the Festival.
Ronny:
The Blume- OC and a team of German organisers with Yvonne Herr, Sonja Schurek, Alexander Reuss and Richard Grüner (- on the background of the photo from left to right) take care as well of a smooth running of the Festival as also of many colourful events and nice hours which are spent together. Ronny feels here in a special way not only the international solidarity of the large gymnastics family but he also makes further major steps into a fullfilled and interesting life.
'And especially now I feel what the sports, for which I gave everything almost during my whole life up to now, can give back to me. So it hasn’t been invain for me -

... the Day before the Opening of 45th BLUME Gran Canaria

Junge Britinnen vom 'Harlequin Gymnastics Club'

PREVIEW: 45th BLUME GRAN CANARIA 2005... German Ronny Ziesmer Guest of Honor!

The '1st GOLDEN AGE GYM FESTIVAL 2005', which was opened at Sunday evening, November 20th, will be this year like an overture of the upcoming world famous Festival of general gymnastics 'BLUME GRAN CANARIA'.
Next week the Spanish organizers will welcome more than 6,500 guests from all over the world.
This festival is a memorial for the Spanish gymnastics hero, the fuor times European champion of artistic gymnastics Joaquim Blume, who died at the end of the fifties by an aeroplane accident...

Guest of Honor: Ronny ZIESMER
The Spanish organizing team is very happy, that the German member of the Olympic team 2004, Ronny Ziesmer from Cottbus, accepted the invitation and will come to the first time to Gran Canaris.
Ronny was paralyzed after a tragic accident some day before the Olympics last year and have to use now a wheelchair
It will be the very first journey as a paraplegic by an aeroplane and so it will be also a big difficult and stimulating task for him.
Already at the last year's festival all participants in 2004 supported the sportsman from Germany manyfoldly.
Also a special giving up for the organizers is to care for the best conditions for Ronny, that he can relax from his badly workday as a paraplegic.
Jesus Telo, jun.: 'We are very proud of the development of this festival!
In 1960 we started with 100 participants from 4 clubs. To the 39th Festival in 1999 more than 7,000 guests came from 167 clubs, from 17 countries and 3 continents. Already in 2003 about 6,000 participants came from 10 countries and 2004 we registered more than 800 guests from 20 different countries!
So we made a jump into a new quality of our thinking and doing.

We welcome all ouer guests to the 45th Festival BLUME GRAN CANARIA, from November 28th to December 04th.'
