PREVIEW: Olympic Test Events

On March, 17th, begin the 'Pre Olympics Competitions' of the gymnastics disciplines artistic, rhythmic gymnastics and trampoline.
From Wednesday on to March 24 top athletes will test the local conditions, the athmosphere and the Olympic apparatuses in the Olympic city of Athens.

GYMmedia present a special Website 'OLYMPIC YEAR 2004' with reports from the Olympic Test Events.

Olympic Venue
During the ATHENS 2004 Games, Gymnastics disciplines will be held in the Olympic Indoor Hall at the Athens Olympic Sports Complex (Artistic Gymnastics and Trampoline), which has a seating capacity of 15,000
and at the Galatsi Olympic Hall (Rhythmic Gymnastics) that has a seating capacity of 6,000.

PREVIEW: 28TH LEVERKUSEN-CUP 2003

The '28th Leverkusen-Cup 2003' is one of the most traditional event in Germany for female gymnasts from all over the world.
This competition will held this year on Saturday, November the 1st in the venue 'Wilhelm-Dopatka-Hall' (Bismarkstrasse) in Leverkusen.
Guests will be the South African national team, a Dutch federation squad, two teams from Latvia and guests from Slovenia, Czech Republic and Hungary, but also two strong teams from host Germany
Patron is - like every year - the Lord Mayor of Leverkusen, Mr. Paul Hebbel.

Madison Square Garden To Host 2004 Visa American Cup

NEW YORK - U.S. medal winners from the 2003 World Gymnastics Championships in Anaheim will challenge top international stars for all-around titles and a prize purse of $45,000 when the Visa American Cup returns to New York City's Madison Square Garden at 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 28, 2004, pronounced US Gymnastics Federation.
The Visa American Cup is annually one of the most prestigious international competitions on the gymnastics calendar...


'We certainly believe that with the new-found depth and strength of the U.S. teams that a few more stars will be created at the 2004 Visa American Cup as the first step toward Olympic glory in Athens', Colarossi said.

The Visa American Cup competition features four of America's rising stars challenged by four of the world's best for the coveted all-around title, and a total prize purse of $45,000.
Each male and female all-around champion will win $10,000. The rosters will be announced early 2004 and is expected to include challengers from Russia, Romania, Ukraine, Canada, Japan and China.
'This event is all about the athletes - and success for us here at the Visa American Cup is seeing those athletes compete at the highest level,' said Jennifer Hemmer, Director of Event and Sponsorship Marketing for Visa USA. 'This year's Visa American Cup is even more important, as 2004 Olympic hopefuls will take part in the competition. CAN Gym Fed -- Houston, Texas gymnast Taqiy Abdullah was the leader in the Canada - Germany - USA Junior International Team competition on Saturday, as Team USA won the Gold, with a score of 212.10, followed by Germany with a score of 203.775 and Canada in third with 197.925.

The Burlington BGs Gymnastics facility was host to this spirited and friendly three country competition, and was an excellent start to the development of the next generation of Age Group/Junior athletes who willl some day represent Canada at the Senior level...

Canadian Juniors face Germany and USA in Burlington

CAN-Fed --Members of the Canadian Junior and Novice team will be training and competing with Junior/Youth teams from USA and Germany this weekend in Burlington, hosted by the Burlington BGs Gymnastics Club. Competition begins 3:00 pm at the BGs club (680 Maple Ave) and is open to the public.
Canadian Junior champion, Nathan Gafuik, and former Junior Champion Adam Wong (both members of the Pan American Games Team) lead the six man team with Braden McNeil, Peter Andersen, Patrick McElroy and Matthew Albrecht. For many athletes on this team, this will be the first international experience and will be the beginning of a concerted effort to develop athletes in the Age Group/Junior categories.

XVIII. International GWG-Cup for Juniors

Winner of the Juniors Category (age groups 15 - 18) of the XVIII. International GWG-Cup in Cottbus / Germany is the local heroe Philipp Boy, member of the German national Juniors Team, with a score of 52,950. On second place came Roman Gisi from the Swiss centre of NKL Liestal. Third was the German Matthias Fahrig from SV Halle.
93 Gymnasts from 14 European countries and from the USA are participate in Cottbus.
First winner of the first day in youth categoriy (age group 10-14) was the 13-years old Max Wittenberg-Voges from TK Hannover (49,850). On second place came Hlad-Bogdan Opris from the Romanian Clubul Sportiv Timisoara and on third the Hungarian Domonkos Paszthory from Ferencvaros Torna Klub.

<< The son of the former world champion and Olympic silver medallist, the director of the 'Tournament of Masters', Sylvio Kroll, the ten years old Lukas Kroll made his very first international competition in his hometown and he was the best among the ten-years old boys.

First time the German national juniors team competed, under the leadership of coach Jens Milbradt, to prepaere for the coming friendly juniors meet in Burlington, Canada on October, the 4th.

The IOC and Women in Sport: Ludmila Turicheva Recognized!

fig-info:-- Ludmila Turicheva, the legendary Olympic All-Around champion in Munich 1972, has been awarded the “Women in Sport” Trophy by the International Olympic Committee in recognition of her lifelong contributions to sports.

Ludmila Turicheva, born in Grozny in 1952, made her debut in Gymnastics at the age of 7. She became champion of the Soviet Union at 12, and team champion at 16 at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico.
Persevering in her accomplishments, she became World Champion in 1970 in Ljubljana....

The Dutch gym star Verona van de Leur pronounced, that she will change the club: From Wednesday, September 3rd on van de Leur start to train at the gymnastics center 'De Hazekamp' in Nijmegen (Netherlands).
So Van de Leur is changing from Dutch national coach Frank Louter and from the club 'Pro Patria' in Zoetemeer, to the Russian Boris Orlov and the choreographer Esther Heijden in Nijmegen
Tomorro, Wednesday, September the 3rd will heold a press conference at 4 p.m. local time in the gym center of Nijmegen...

XXII. Universiade: Asia strong in Daegu

The artistic gymnastics competiotion of the XXII UNIVERSIADE in Daegu (Republic of Korea) finished today with the apparatus finals.
The Ukrainian Irina Yarotska, fourth of Worlds all-around in Anaheim, was the most successful gymnast. She won all-around, beam and floor final.
Ukraine in women's and host Korea in men's competition were the best nations. Winner of men's all-around was the Korean Yang, Tae-Young on second place came the fourth of Anaheim, Yernar Yerimbetov from Kasachstan.
The world champion on rings from 1999, Tianjin, DHONG, Zhen made a successful comeback on rings...
