U.S. Girls beat Favourite Romania

In a big fight the U.S. Women's team won the gold medal of the team final with a score of 112,573 points. Titleholder Romania got 110,833 and won silver, but to the first time of history Australia won a team medal: Bronze for the 'Aussies' with 110,335 points!
The Chinese team lost on floor and came on 4th place.
Spain - leading after first rotation (floor) crashed on beam (5) and Russia made mistakes on bars and beam: 6th place only, followed by Ukraine and Brazil... One day before the women's Team Final of the 37th Worlds in Anaheim the U.S.team member Courtney Kupets injured her leftAchilles tendon during afternoon training...

Golden Girls of Anaheim!

'I don't think it's really sunk in yet that we are the first team ever to win Worlds,' team veteran and 2000 Olympian Tasha Schwikert said. 'We've been through so many different things this week and we are just in shock that we made it through another injury and that we are all still standing. It was awesome.'
Team USA qualified for the final in third place after bobbles on beam and floor, and appeared in danger of dropping a few more places after losing world vault bronze medalist Annia Hatch to a torn ACL, world beam champion Ashley Postell to the flu, and, on Tuesday, losing world uneven bars champ Courtney Kupets to a torn Achilles.
Memmel, the only U.S. athlete to perform on all four events, led the competition with the top all-around mark, including a meet-high 9.637 on the uneven bars and the competition's second-best score on beam of 9.575.
During team prelims on Sunday, Memmel qualified in fourth for the uneven bars event final, and in sixth place for the balance beam final. Teammate Courtney Kupets qualified in second place for the uneven bars final but is unable to compete due to an Achilles tendon injury.
The U.S. women finished with the bronze medal at the 2001 World Championships in Ghent, Belgium. The United States had never before won a team gold medal at the World Championships.

Deduction Costs China Bronze Medal!
Team loses 0.2 points over back handspring, tuck jumps
A .2 deduction incurred by the Chinese team at Wedneday night's team final cost China the bronze medal. Fan, Ye performed a back handspring on the podium and jumps while waiting to begin her beam routine.
Under this new format, the gymnasts are not allowed to warm up on the podium prior to competition. The rules state that a gymnast may only stretch, but may not flip, while waiting for the green light to begin the routine.
The deduction was enough to leave China in fourth place, .076 behind Australia. (source: IG, Amanda Turner)

Is Arnie coming to the Team Austria...?

One week before the opening of the World Champs of artistic gymnastics the Austrian gymnastics teams arrived just now in Anaheim, coming from its training camp in West-Woodword/Ca.
And just now the election campaign is beginning in California! So the 'Terminator-Governator' Arnold Schwarzenegger today pronounced, that he will make a visit to the Austrian gymnastics team...!
So it was to read on the ÖFT website. Is it a skilful publicity gag or will it be reality....?
