Canadian Team Trials in Toronto

Czech team and Komrskova sovereign

Ten years after the separation of the Czech and the Slovakian gymnastics family took place a friendly meet between this two sovereign nations last weekend in Bratislava (SVK).
The guests from the Czech Republik won this dual meet with a score of 139,400 : 127,975 points.
Jana Kommrskova was the clearly best gymnast with 35,60, followed by more 5 Czech gymnasts.
Best of the Slovakian host was Jana Drabikova (32,20) on sixth place...

Katja Abel wins 2nd German World Trials

The reigning German all around champion Katja Abel from Berlin was the winner of the second German trials in preparation of the coming world championships in Anaheim.
Abel won with a score of 35475 points. Birgit Schweigert (Turnteam TOYOTA Cologne) was leading after three apparatusses, but she crashed two times at uneven bars. So Lisa Brueggemann (TTT Cologne) came on second place, after a mistake at the Jaeger sault on bars.
Daria Bijak - also from Cologne - came on third place, Yvonne Musik was fourth, behind her came Schweigert on fifth place....

Andreea Munteanu - new Romanian Champion

The 15-years old Andreea Munteanu from Constanta won the all-around competition of the Romanian Nationals last weekend in Bacau with a score of 37.635 points.
On second place came Alexandra Eremia (37,400) and the bronze medal went to Dana Safronie (37,200).
The last official test of the Romanian squad before the coming world championships in Anaheim (August 16 - 24) will be a dual meet against Italy at July, 19....

BAGA-info: -- Beth Tweddle (Liverpool) achieved a very impressive hat trick at the 2003 British Championships for Women, cheered by the enthusiastic crowd at the jam-packed Spectrum, Guildford.
She put together an overall score of 35.550 points to win the All-around title, followed by Rebecca Mason (Sandbach), 34.650, Silver medal, and Vanessa Hobbs (Dynamo, Portsmouth), 34.250, Bronze. ..

SC Berlin: Retirement from German s Premier League

Germany's most successful gymnastics club, the SC Berlin pronounced its retirement of the 1st BUNDESLIGA, the highest league of men's artistic gymnastics in Germany.
Team chief Siegfried Wuestemann spoke from problems in the personnel structure: There are not enough adult gymnasts, to start into the competition season this autumn.

Romania and Florica Leonida on top in Toulon

The reigning Junior European balance beam champion Florica Leonida led her Romanian team to victory over France and Netherlands at a tri-meet held last weekend in Toulon, France. The Romanian gymnasts finished first through fifth in the all-around standings.
On sixth place came the first French gymnast Marine Debauve (34,750).
Best Dutch gymnast was Gabriella Wammes on 13th place, but the Dutch team started without their stars Verona van de Leur (injured) and the Dutch champion Suzanne Harmes...

Collapsed high bar – junior European champion Martin Konečný survived! And 4 gold medals for Jana Komrsková.
The 2003 Czech National Championships was closed almost symbolically with the world-wide known tune of Antonín Drořák's New World Symphony accompanying the floor exercises of Kateřina Marešová. ...

One week ago in the hard test of a control competition Komrsková was beaten by Jana Šikulová (aged 15). Jana is a good all around competitor, a great talent: 'And I was finishing the secondary school and I know very well, that the decisive results will come in one and the half months time. I have a large wish to be able to take part in 2004 OG with a complete Czech team! '
Jana Komrsková (Zlín), cured after one year the uneven bars World Cup finalist Kateřina Marešová (Brno), Veronika Ožanová (aged 16, Ostrava), Jana Šikulová (15, Brno) have already their places in the team. Two other experienced gymnasts Zuzana Oboňová and Petra Chytilová are probably out because of injury. The Championships however offered next two talents, 15 years old slim girls, Adéla Pavouková and Barbora Surovčíková. What a miracle, both came from country clubs!

The National Championships in Artistic Gymnastics was held for the first time together with trampolines and took the whole area of the nice ice-hockey stadium. The winners were bringing from the city of Ostrava a wrist watch Longines.

Dual Meet: Russia and Pavlova won - Tweddle cheers

It was not a surprise, that the guests from Russia won the dual meet against hos Great Britain (146,600 : 139,375) in the Park Road Gym Centre of Liverpool. Also the triumph of the three all-around best gymnast Anna Pavlowa (37,050), Natalia Ziganshina and Svetlana Khorkina is o.k., but that the Britsh Bronze medallist of the European Champs on uneven bars beat the European Champion Svetlana Khorkina - it's a little sensation and a big success for British gymnastics, too...

GYMnastic Helps Alisher!

The exceptional athlet Oksana Chusovitina started last weekend at the German Nationals out of competition (36,450), but she got a lot of sympathy of the spectators and the host TG Boeckingen. All together 1,000 Euro they contributed to help her son Alisher, who has been in treatment for leukemia since last fall in Cologne.
A big sum to help Alisher came just now from the Team Uzbekistan Fundraiser Club' from the USA, transmitted on the special GYMmedia Help bank account: 'Gymnastics for Alisher'!
