U.S. NATIONALS. Hamm and Kupets

Paul Hamm (Maukesha, Wiskonsin) and Courtney Kupets (Las Vegas) defend their titles at the U.S. Gymnastics Championships 2003 last weekend, which took place at the Cellular Arena of Milwaukee.

To the same time took also place the U.S. Nationals of Rhythmic Gymnastics and Sport Aerobics in Milwaukee...

GERMAN NATIONAL: The Hundredth and the Youngest...!

Katja Abel from Berlin (SV Preussen) is the new but also the 100th all-around champion in the history of German's women gymnastics.
On second place came Lisa Brueggemann from Turnteam TOYOTA Cologne and her teammate Birgit Schweigert got the bronze medal.
Ronny Ziesmer from Cottbus won the national all-around German men's title, second was Christian Berczes and third Thomas Andergassen (Stuttgart), but best in all around at the first competition was the 15 years old Fabian Hambuechen....

Russian Cup 2003: Pavlova, Podgorni on Top, three Goldens for Khorkina

Anna Pavlova, the Junior European champion from Patras 2002, edged the reigning world and European champion Svetlana Khorkina and wins the Russian Cup all-around title in Moscow.
but Svetlana Khorkina got three Golden medals at the apparatus finals of the Russian champonships. Yevgeni Podgorni was the winner of the all-around final in men's category.

(The Russian All-around Championships 2003 were held in March, already.)....

Suzanne Harmes - four times Dutch Champion

The 2003 Dutch Nationals took place this weekend in Nijmegen - without the title holder from 2002 Verona van de Leur.
In her hometown Nijmegen Suzanne Harmes advanced to the most successful gymnast:
She won not only the all-around title with a score of 36,888, but also the gold medals at three apparatusses.
Only the title on uneven bars was won by Laura van Leeuwen from Zoetemeer...

Romania wins, Brasilia impresses in Spain

Last weekend the Romanian national team of women's artistic gymnastics won the triple meet in Madrid (Spain) with a clear difference of more than 4,5 points, but Brasilia on third place had only a backward to the Spanish host from 1,165 points...!
Best in individual all around was the Romanian Oana Ban (37,150), best Spanisch gymnast was the floor world champion Elena Gomez and best Brasilian Daniele Hypolito came on fifth place...

International Slovakian Championships 2003

In Trnava, Slovakia took place the 2003 International Slovakian Championships of artistic gymnastics.
Winner in all around men's category was Filip Ude from Croatia with a score of 53,20. The best Slovakian Samuel Piasecky (53,15) came on second place.
In women's category the winner came from Romania: Lorena Stancu (33,708). Lia Parolari from Slovakia was the best gymnast of the host (6th place) and the new Slovakian title holder.

Dutch Men s Nationals 2003

In Hoofddorp took place the Dutch Ntional Championships of men's artistic Gymnastics.
Herre Zonderland
won the all-around title with a score of 50,85 points and also the titles on four apparatusse.
The highest score noticed the junior Jeffrey Wammes: He scored 53,05, and is the new Dutch junior champion. On second place in the junior category came Epke Zonderland (52,10)....

Ivanova and Stefanow are the new Bulgarian All-around Champions

Gergana Iwanowa was the winner of the Bulgarian all around title in Sofia last week with a score of 35,650 points. She topped the former Ukrainian, the Olympian Victoria Karpenko.
Radoslav Stefanov (53,700) won the national title in men's category to the first time (53,700), on cecond place came Filip Janev, third was Kiril Gizdov.

The Dutch 'PEGASES' company Janssen–Fritsen announced, that the Organising Committee of the XIV Pan American Games 2003 in Santo Domingo, has made the same decision as the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Organising Committee and has chosen Janssen Fritsen Gymnastic Equipment for their prestigeous competition

GUINNESS WORLD RECORD: Handstand on a Castle

On Saturday five gymnasts from Berlin - among of them the high bar Olympic champion of Atlanta, Andreas Wecker and the former German all-around master Peter Nikiferow celebrated a noisy handstand on a special steel construction on the biggest aldest German castle from the 12th century.
The German company PANHOLZ from Sulzfeld, near Heilbronn built this construction, to carry a roof for saving the 6 meters thick wall.
Five handstands in a high about 30 meters to the same time and one minute long - this was a new World rekord in the GUINNESS Book!
