KNGU looses law suit

The Dutch gymnastics federation (KNGU) has lost a law suit at the court of Zutphen which was filed by the gymnasts Evi Neijssen and Patricia Lasomer from the gymnastics club Echt (Limburg). Both gymnasts, despite of showing according performances at the Dutch Championships (June 2002), have not been appointed for the squad of elite gymnasts ”Oranje und Jung Oranje” out of which the participants for international competitions are being recruited. …

Ukrainian victors at the Stella Sakharova Cup in Kiev

The Ukrainia Aliona Kvasha was the winner of the Stelle Sakharova Cup in the Ukrainian capital Kiev last weekend.
Also in men's category the winner was an Ukrainian: Ruslan Mezentzev, on second place came Sergei Vyaltsev (UKR).
Best inall-around juniors category was the European juniors champion on bars, Fabian Hambuechen from Germany.

OBI-Cup: Dutch victories in Germany

The Netherlands Juniors team was the winner of the International OBI Cup, which was held this weekend in Berlin, Germany. The Dutch team was the best with a score of 148,150 points. On second place came the young boys from Switzerland (146,650) and on third the young talents from the German club SC Cottbus (145,250).
The Dutch Jeffrey Wammes (52,05)was the best in individual all-around. Wammes made his world cup premiere two weeks ago at the Cottbus World cup, alreday (9th on fllor).
Behind him Phillip Boy from Cottbus came in second (51,15) and the Canadian Adam Wong on third place .

Friendship Classic 2003 in Pottsville

Two Russians were the winners of the traditional 'Friendship Classic 2003' in Pottsville/Pennsylvania, which was held last weekend.
In seniors category Ekaterina Orlova from Russia was the best with a score of 37,525, on second place came her teammate Alexandra Schevtchenko (37,450), followed by Irina Yarotska (UKR) and the Russian Gulnara Ziganshina.

Maria Kryutchkova (RUS) won in the juniors category with 37,200 points. On second place came Grace Taylor (USA/Aiken) with 35,150 points.

The German Judge ROLF BAUCH passed away...

With great sadness, the big international gymnastics family noticed, that Mr. Rolf BAUCH, Honorary Member of the German Gymnastics Federation 'Maerkischer TurnerBund', has passed away yesterday in Potsdam, Germany.
Mr. Bauch, born on October 23, 1927 in Neukirch, was a longtime international judge from 1958 on until Atlanta 1996, an he got in 1998 the Diploma of the FIG for his highest seniority as an international judge.
Rolf Bauch was also the longtime chief coach of the former top gymnastics club 'ASK Potsdam', which developed more like 20 medals at Olympic Games, World and European Championships, at last the Olympic gold medal of Holger Behrendt on rings (Seoul 1988) and the world champion Jörg Behrend on vault 1989 in Stuttgart.

World Cup: Romanian Day in Thessaloniki

Romanian gymnasts were the most successful athletes at the final day in Thessaloniki:
Like in Paris two weeks ago Marius Urzica won not only on pommel horse, but also the parallel bars final, and Oana Ban (Beam) und Floarea Leonida (floor) were the best in women's category.
On Hig bar the Ukrainian Alexander Beresch beats the Cottbus winner Aljaz Pegan from Slovenia and the world champion Vlavios Maras in his own country......

World Cup Thessaloniki: First Final Day

Also at the first final day of this third World Cup of the season in Thessaloniki the favourites were the best. So Jordan Jovtchev from Bulgaria won the floor final, Marius Urzica was unbeaten again on pommel horse and the strong Greece Dimosthenis Tambakos was the best in his hometown on rings.
In women's category Natalia Ziganshina on vault and Svetlana Khorkina were the two Russian winners of the first final day...

Comeback: Ioannis Melissanidis starts again after a break of 18 Month

The Greece superstar and Olympic floor champion of Atlanta 1996, Ioannis Melissanidis will start at the 4th World Cup of the 2003 circuit in his hometown Thessaloniki/Greece coming weekend to the first time after a break of 1 1/2 year. He plans to compete on vaulting table and on high bar. The competition hall named 'Ioannis Melissanidis Hall', but never before he took part in this stadium himself.
Coming weekend (finals on Saturday/Sunday/) the Greece host tests again the Olympic podium like one year before at the European Champs in Patras...

After his successes of the world cups in Paris-Bercy, Cottbus and Thessaloniki the Bulgarian Jordan JOWTSCHEW is the NEW NUMBER ONE now of the GYMmedia World Ranking List. After Alexei Nemow, leading from the beginning 1996 to 2002, and after Ivan Ivankov (BLR) now Jovtchev is the third gymnast on the top of this ranking. Russia is the only one nation with three gymnasts among the TOP TEN.
Paul Hamm, Blaine Wilson and Sean Townsend are ranking on 15 to 17 places.
The best Australian is Philippe Rizzo (32) and Kanukai Jackson (GBR) improved from 126 to 80 position...
