China comes to Cottbus

Just now arrived the promise of the top gymnastics nation, the Olympic and world champion China the host of the second event of the world cup circuit 2003, the host Cottbus (Germany). So about 150 gymnasts from 44 country will make the 27th tournament of masters to one of the most important events before the world championships in Anaheim....

36th World Championships

At the first day of the 36th World Championships in Artistic Gymnastics in Debrecen (HUN) Elena Zamoloschikova (RUS/floor) and Courtney Kupets (USA) were the winners, also Marian Dragulescu (ROM/floor), Marius Urzica (ROM/pommel horse) and Szilveszter Csollany (HUN/rings).
On 2nd day, Ashley Postell (USA) on beam and Elena Gomez (ESP) becam World Champions. Li Xiao-Peng (CHN) won on vault and parallel bars, Vlasios Maras (GRE) won on high bar.

Yesterday the new German national coach Andreas Hirsch nominated the German gymnasts for the coming world championships in Debrecen (Nov 20-24), but he was not carefree in the training camp Kienbaum...
>> To the first time Prof Peter Brueggemann will lead a German women's team to a world championship, because the German national coach Dr. Petra Theiss became a mother (Congratulations, also to father Mauno Nissinen!).
Last decissions will be clear after Trophy Massilia next weekend...

Germany beats Italy and Spain

The German juniors team beats the Italian and the Spain boys in a tri-meet in Bad Wipfen/Germany (near Heilbronn):
208,05 : 205,05 : 200,40.
The best gymnast in all-around was the Italian Luca Forte (52,80), second was the German Rene Piephard (52,35) - bronze medallist of European Champs in Patras.
On third came Ivan San Miguel from Spain with a score of 51,65 points

The Luxembourg Gymnastics Federation organises not only the national Championships coming weekend, but also the '4th International FLGym OPEN'.
Marinka van APPELDOORN won the women's all-around and Conny D?TAILLE is the old and new Champion of Luxembourg:
In men's category won Markus SETZ (SUI) and national Champion is Urs WIRTH. Sascha Palgen starts on pommel horse, only...
Next year (2003, May 24-25) this event may be an interesting highlight of the European calendar and a good test in preparation of the World Championships in Anaheim (USA).

The European Champion of 2002, the Romanian men's team won a tri-meet in Geneva lst weekend with a score of 219,05 points.
On second place came the European Champion of 1998 France with 217,025 and on third came the Swiss team with 212,425 points.
Best gymnast in all-around was Benoit Caranobe from France with 55,95 points. On three apparatusses he presented 10 point start values, also like the second, Dan Potra (ROM), the European All-around Champion from Patras 2002. Third was Gaetan Dupont (FRA/54,20) and the best Swiss gymnast was Roman Schweizer on fourth place..

Trophy Massilia like little World Champs

The traditional competition of women's artistic gymnastics 'Trophy Massilia 2002' was won by the Romanian team. The host France got the silver medal and the Netherland girls scored on third place, behind them came Russia on fifth place.

Den FRIEDENSAPPELL deutscher Sportler unterzeichnete heute auch Ex-Weltmeister an den Ringen Andreas AGUILAR. Mit 71 prominenten Unterschriften liegen die Turner damit auch als die aktivsten dieser Initiative an der Spitze der aktuellen Liste.. Es folgen Fußball (46 Unterschriften, 2 Olympiasieger), Radsport (34/9), Leichtathletik (24/9) und Rudern 18/11) von bislang 21 verschiedenen Sportarten.
