Sergej Pfeifer injured

The German Champion on floor 2002 and German all-round champion 2000 Sergej Pfeifer had been operated last week on knee.
So the 25 years old gymnast from TK Hanover cannot start at the coming three world cup events in Paris, Coottbus and Thessaloniki.
The German chief coach Andreas Hirsch hopes, that Pfeifer will be fit again to the GermanWorld Champs qualifications in summer this year.

Hall of Fame will reward five new Top Individuals

The International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in Oklahoma-City (USA) will reward five new individuals of gymnastics this year.
They are Dimitri Bilozerchev (RUS), Kurt Thomas (USA), Karin Buettner-Janz (GER/GDR), Franco Menichelli (ITA) and, posthumously, former FIG Secretary General, Max Bangerter (SUI).

GYMmediaTV Producer in Cottbus again

After the TV premiere last year the world cup organizers booked again the responsible equipment of GYMmedia-TV, to realize the TV production of the Cottbus World Cup 'Tournament of Masters'.
The Swedish agency IEC in sports makes the brokerage of TV rights and sells the signal into more than 70 countries worldwide.

Svetlana Khorkina leads also after the second day of the 2003 Russian AA Championships in the Olympic Sports Komplex of Moscow and is the new Russian Champion 2003. On second place came the titleholder 2002, Anna Pavlova. Third is Natalia Ziganshina.
Best in mens's category after six apparatusses was Alexei Bondarenko, but the new Russion Champion now, after the all-around final, is Sergei Tikhonovsky from Sysran....

Canabis: It is three Month!

The Royal Spanish Federation of Gymnastics returned its verdict on the case of the Spanish gymnast Gervasio Deferr, who had tested positive for cannabis (- News from February, 19)
The athlete was given a three-month suspension to begin on January 7, 2003 for the charges against him at the 2002 national championships in Vitoria.

The organizers of the World Cup '27th TOURNAMENT of Masters' in Cottbus, Germany are happy about the list of participants: 44 nations and more than 140 athletes - this will be a new record in the 30 years old history of this event.
But also the world elite will come.:Names like the Olympic Champion Igors Vichrovs (LAT), Szilveszter Csollany (HUN), Marius Urzica (RUM) the Chineses Huang, Xu and Xing, Aowei, but also the worldchampions like Marian Dragulescu (ROM), Jordan Jovtchev (BUL) and after a long time again the powerfull athletes from USA Blaine Wilson, Paul and Morgan Hamm.

Visa American Cup in Faifax opened the International Pre-Olympic Season

US-Gymnastics pronounced, that the two-time Olympian Blaine Wilson (USA) and 2002 U.S. Junior National Champion Carly Patterson captured the all-around titles in front of 7,111 fans at the 2003 VISA American Cup on yesterday at George Mason University's Patriot Center.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Klaus Koeste

Today the German Olympic Champion of artistic gymnastics (Munich 1972), Klaus KOESTE, celebrates his 60th birthday. Koeste lives in the little village Jesenitz, near the city Leipzig in the middle of Germany.
From 1961 to 1974 Koeste won 11 international medals, was the member of the GDR Olympic Bronze team 1964, 1968 and 1972 and he was two times European high bar champion (1971 and 1973).
Last year he was also the Champion in his age group at the German Gymnastics Festival 2002 in his hometown Leipzig.
With all together 34 national titles Koeste is the German record holder, together with his former rival from the German west side, Eberhard Gienger.

Moscow: Stars of the World cancelled

Successor of the former competition of artistic gymnastics 'Moscow News' the event 'Stars of the World' was the biggest international highlight in the Russian capital in the last years. But now the Russian Gymnastics Federation had cancelled this event due to a lack of funds. The tournament last year was also cancelled.
The Russian championships will be held March, 2-8, followed by the Moscow Grand Prix of Rhythmic Gymnastics (March 6-9).
In May 2003 Moscow will host the European Championships of Teams.

Romanian Star coaches Belu and Bitang attempted to resign this week...

The Romanian newspaper Evenimentul Zilei pronounced today, that the both star coaches of the women's team champion Romania, Octavian Belu and Mariana Bitang retired, yesterday and want to cancel their contracts with the Romanian Gymnastics Federation...but the Federation declined to accept any resignation from Belu and Bitang, who have an employment contract with the Romanian Olympic Committee through the 2004 Olympic Games...
