Tweddle & SMITH - strong Hosts in Glasgow

The Britisch world Champion on uneven bars Beth Tweddle won on her apparatus the world cup final today, which is held in the Kelvin Hall of Glasgow.
On men's side the young Louis SMITH won the second title for the hosts on pommel horse.
After a one year break the German Matthias FAHRIG was the winner on floor and on vault andálso the Russians got two victories on women's vault by Anna PAVLOVA and on still ringy by Alexander SAFOSHKIN...
Yann CUCHERAT won on parallel bars and on high bar...
Steliana NISTOR and Sandra IZBASA were top on beam and on floor...

SWISS CUP: The Oldest were the Best! -- GYMfamily Event --

5.500 visitors saw the highly paid "International SWISS CUP 2006" which was held today in the Stadium Hall of Zurich.
Winner of this pair competition were the new German Oksana Tschusowitina (31 years) and the Bulgarian veteran Jordan Jovtchev (33) .
On second only came the top favorites from Romania, Steliana Nistor and Marian Dragulescu.
With big jubilations the visitors celebrated the third placed Swiss pair Ariella Kaeslin / Nicolas Boeschenstein
The SWISS CUP 2006 had a budget of 100.000 Swiss Franc (CHF) and is the highest paid gymnastics event....

10th SISKA INTERNATIONAL CUP in Ljubljana

The winners of the 10th anniversary of 'Siska International 2006' which held in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana last Saturday, came from Russia, Ukraine and Italy.
All-around winner was the Russian Yekaterina KRAMARENKO with a score of 56,45 points, followed by her teammate Tatiana NABIYEVA (55,85), who was winning also the vault final. On third cam the Romanian Alexandra GHITA (55,75).

125 years International Gymnastics Federation F.I.G.

On the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the International Gymnastics Federation F.I.G. took place various events last weekend in Geneva and also takes place a photo exhibition in the Olympic museum in Lausanne, an exhibition of gymnastics equipment as well as a congress. Today evening will be held another highlight with the “F.I.G.- Gala”.

Many representatives of national federations, various international organisations and stars of the history of gymnastics have come to Geneva....

Artistic gymnastics – has its’ origins in Germany;

the beginning of international gymnastics took place in EUROPE

- In 1903 for the first time a tournament with the four countries France, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands took place in Antwerp. Until 1930 further eight tournaments followed, who after the events took place were classified as World Championships.
- The "FEG" officially took part in Olympic Games for the first time in London 1908.
- On April 7th 1921 the until then European federation had 16 member federations and changed its’ name to Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique" (F.I.G.).
- 1930 the F.I.G. already had 22 member federations.
- Led by the F.I.G., in 1963 in Budapest took place the 1st World Championships of “modern gymnastics" which named as rhythmic gymnastics became an Olympic discipline in 1981 and for the first time was part of the Olym

World stars of international gymnastics as guests in Geneva

- Since 2004 the F.I.G. has 129 member federations.
In Antalya (TUR) Bruno GRANDI was re-elected for his third period of office.
- In 2005 Norbert BUECHE (SUI) handed over the position of F.I.G.- general secretary after 17 years to André Gueisbuhler (SUI).
- In 1991 the F.I.G. had moved from Lyss to Moutier and now in 2006 Neuchatel is becoming the new location of the F.I.G.- headquarters where currently are working 20 employees.

125th Anniversary of F.I.G. - Kick off at the Olympic Museum

- fig-: --- It was at Lausanne's Olympic Museum that the Executive Commission of the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique launched festivities marking the 125th anniversary of the founding of the FIG in 1881.
On the same occasion, President Grandi officially inaugurated a pro tem exposition entitled, '125 Years of Gymnastics' at the official ribbon cutting....
The 125th Anniversary of the FIG will take place at Geneva's Palexpo, starting October 26, and will offer symposiums, colloquiums and the statutory FIG General Assembly. Highlight of the jubilee?

A prestigious Gala set for Monday, October 30 at the Arena, which will present an impressive line-up of Olympic and World champions from the FIG's six competitive disciplines, along with Cirque du Soleil artists specifically brought in for the occasion.

The 40th EnBW Gymnastics World Championships 2007 of the men and the
29th Women's World Champinships from September 1st to 9th in Stuttgart's Hanns Martin-Schleyer Halle are also the only opportunity to qualify for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

A heated contest for the coveted twelve qualifying places for national teams is to be expected. For instance a German women's team last participated in the Barcelona Olympics, 15 years ago...

Spanish - Czech Duo replaces Chineses
The organizers of the traditional 'Swiss Cup 2006', which will held November 65 in Zurich are happy to welcome a second international pair, existent by the European all-around champion Rafael Martinez and the two-times Czech world cup winner Jana Komrskova. Both replace the Chinese pair because of injury.
So its the second international mixed pair aside Jovtchev/Tschusowitina The swiss hosts expect a sold out venue with nearly 5.000 visitors on Sunday, back into the 'Hallenstadion' of Zurcih again...

Zimbabwe to host Zone Six Gymnastics tournament

In December Zimbabwe will host the 'Zone Six Gymnastics Championships' in the country's capital city of Harare, The Herald reported on Thursday.
The championships, open to various age groups up to 21-year-olds, will be held at Belvedere Teachers' College between December 7 and 12.....
'At the moment, it is safe to say we expect a sizeable number of participants, perhaps even over 200. A maximum squad side is 131, which only South Africa is likely to field,' said Muchatuta.
He added that Zone Six championships should rotate between countries that have adequate equipment and facilities to host as South Africa and Namibia have generally tended to shoulder the responsibility.
