FIG: Video Made Available to Judges and for Training Purposes

New ICROS System...
The Artistic Gymnastics Technical Presidents, Ms Nellie Kim and Mr Adrian Stoica, travelled to Duisburg to participate in a work meeting with Swiss Timing Director, Daniel Baumat, who came to comment on the latest tests carried out with the new IRCOS system (Instant Replay and Control System), a development requested by the FIG, primarily to allow judges to visualise an exercise immediately following its presentation during a competition....

Daniel Baumat
Swiss Timing

Following the competition, the Technical Committee will be able to review the whole of a competition’s exercises. Through Longines' computer system, IRCOS mixes images and judges’ marks. This function will allow FIG technicians to assess the quality of judging and to analyse the judges themselves. Education
The saved data, which will be measured not in giga but in tera, may be burned onto a disc and made available to the federations and their technical management. This precious material will also be used in the Academies, an educational programme set up by the FIG. Coaches will be the first to reap the benefits of the IRCOS system in their quest for a perfect gesture. The information will also offer assistance to the scientists who accompany the FIG educational programme in the areas of study, prevention and the writing of the programme adapted to all stages of human development.

Available to National Federations
IRCOS produces images of a very high quality, sufficient for broadcasting on a television network at the broadcast standard. In the future, the FIG could supply broadcasters from countries whose gymnasts failed to advance past the qualifying competition, a competition that is not covered by the host broadcaster.
This is a first in terms of gymnastic development in countries with a weak gymnastic tradition. These countries will be able to discover their gymnasts on their own national television networks.
The IRCOS system will be approved by the FIG and used at the Olympic Games, World Games and official FIG competitions, those being the world championships and the world cup finals.

Finally this development is part of the total overhaul of the discipline’s Code of Points, following the events that peppered the Men’s Olympic Finals last year in Athens.

Swetlana Khorkina - a blissful Mother now!

29-Jul-05 ---- The U.S. magazine International Gymnast pronounced, that the three-time world champion Svetlana Khorkina on the evening of July 21gave birth to a baby boy through natural methods at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. The baby, who weighed approximately 6.5 lbs. at birth, is named Vladislav ('Slava' for short). The baby's father, Georgian actor Levan Uchaneishvili, has been by Khorkina's side

Svetlana Khorkina (26) is planning to return to Russia following the birth of her first child in the United States.

Svetlana Khorkina gave birth to a healthy baby boy yesterday. The 50-centimeter tall baby weighed 3.200 grams. The childbirth completed successfully, although doctors had to perform Cesarean section.
Russian gymnast, Aleksey Nemov, was one of the first colleagues, who congratulated Svetlana on the birth of her son: Nemov sent her a huge bouquet of roses and a card. Svetlana was very happy about the present: the athlete is staying in the USA alone, her mother could not arrive in the USA from Russia because of doctors' restrictions.
Senior coach of men's gymnastics of Russia, Yevgeny Nikolko, said that the men's team was thinking about a good present for the newly-fledged mom. 'We still think about what we can buy for Svetlana. Maybe it will be a very nice bed for the baby or some furniture for Svetlana's new house in the Moscow region,' said he.
Svetlana Khorkina has not unveiled the name of the baby's father yet. Reporters believe, however, that it is a 47-year-old actor Levan Uchaneishvili. Svetlana and Levan met each other two years ago. Levan Uchaneishvili starred in quite a number of US-made movies, such as 'Independence Day,' 'Blade,' 'Virus,' 'The 25th Hour,' and some others.
Svetlana and Levan's baby was born in Cedars Sinai hospital in Los Angeles. The happy parents named their son as Vladislav.
The world-known Russian gymnast Svetlana Khorkina disclosed her private secret when she was eight months pregnant. According to the US law, any baby born either on the US territory or on board a ship sailing under the US flag, will have a right to obtain the US citizenship at full legal age. Svetlana's son will thus have an opportunity to choose, which citizenship he would like to hold, Russian or American.

Ronny Ziesmer: Alliance of Hope - ... more than a foundation!

Ronny Ziesmer: Alliance of Hope - ... more than a foundation!

In its latest edition (18-07-2005) the German magazine DER SPIEGEL does not only dedicate an article to Ronny Ziesmer as sportsman.
Almost exactly on the very same day one year after the horrible accident (12-07-2004) the former virtuoso of motion appears in the science section:
He substantially expanded his primary idea of founding a 'Ronny Ziesmer Gymnastics Foundation': Ronny is aiming for getting actively involved by founding a holding company in order to support scientific studies in the area of regeneration of nerve fibres.
'That is important for e v e r y paraplegic person, throughout the world, not only for sportsmen', so said the ex-gymnast, who shortly enrolled as student in biotechnology due to this context...

On Ronny's day of fate (12th July) : Dr. Andreas Niedeggen (Emergency Hospital Berlin)
talking with Ronny Ziesmer and editor of Spiegel Gerald Traufetter (on the right)

Dr. Niedeggen explains the specifics of the injury by using a spine model

One of his first reactions had been already then, '...how can I ever give back anything of what was given to me as support...?!'
One of his first actions – being completely helpless himself then – had been the idea of a 'Ronny Ziesmer-Gymnastics Foundation': ''I wanted to set up a world-wide operating foundation that ties a net of security for athletes, who suffer an injury, fail or get into trouble by practising their kind of sport - like I did. Then, however, we had several encounters of a special kind during the International German Gymnastics Festival in Berlin...!'

Intensive conversation in the chancellor's office:
Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder: 'Ronny, in case you will need support for your interesting project, I will gladly be at your disposal...!'

'Maybe, this has been my second day of fate in my second life!'
Almost a little overwhelmed Ronny had been on this 19th May, when he had the chance to intensively talk with the Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder at the Gymnastics Festival Reception in the chancellor’s office.
This encounter had been realised by a contact organised by GYMmedia with one of the company founders of the 'Neuraxo Biotech' GmbH Dusseldorf on the very morning of this day.
Mr Dr Troescher explained to Ronny possibilities of a future co-operation between the handicapped athlete and the endeavours of German research and science to achieve long- and medium-term results of a possible treatment of paraplegic people.
As a consequence, Ronny decided to gain competence in this area. Instead of enrolling for electro-technology he will study biotechnology at the university of applied sciences in Lausitz.
'This certainly will form comprehension of this interesting field of science. This I can deepen at the same time or, perhaps, later by taking further courses.'
15 million Euro is the declared aim of Ronny to be collected through his personal public commitment.... a huge aim of the former world class athlete, however, still appropriate measured to his hitherto sportive goals in his high-tech sport as well as the gigantic dimension of the scientific and medical tasks of research in this area.
'When I simply were able to contribute my share in order to built up an 'Alliance of Hope' – however on a scientific basis – and to convince directly and indirectly afflicted people, entrepreneurs, banks, insurance companies, venture capitalists and many, many others that it is worthy to invest money, then this will be not only best fortune for myself but for every afflicted all over the world!
However, I do know, that it will take some time to lead to actual progress – but still, I will be able to say that
I do not wait passively but am actively involved!'
