The Grand Prix has become an established fixture in the World Cup circuit, and this year’s event is expected to attract a host of World and Olympic champions.

Some stars to look out for are the Olympic parallel bars champion, Valery Goncharov, from Ukraine, double world champion Jordan Jotchev from Bulgaria, and world number one Elena Zamolodchikova, from Russia.
From the UK, four-time British champion Beth Tweddle, and Ross Brewer, a current British champion, will be competing, also the German young star Fabian Hambuechen, Thomas Andergassen and Christian Berczes....

The last event of the WC circuit will be the 'DTB Pokal' in Stuttgart (November 26 - 28), the city of the over next and Pre-Olympic world championships 2007.

But the absolutely highlight after the Olympics this year will be the 12th World Cup Final in Birmingham, December 11 - 12 with the top eight gymnasts at the different apparatuses.

(The 1976 Olympic Champion on Floor and Vault in Montreal, Nelly Kim from Belarus, became the first Olympic Champion to win elections for the position of Women’s Artistic Gymnastics TC. Kim won with 56 votes against 34 for the other candidate, Agneta Gothberg from Sweden.

There were two rounds to elect 20 members of the FIG Council (known also as the “Parliament” of the FIG). The representation of the Continental Unions is as follows:
- 7 from the UEG (Europe), 3 from UAG (Africa), 4 from PAGU (Pan-America), 5 from AGU (Asia) and 1 from Oceania.

The Congress finishes on Saturday, October 23rd.

Around President Bruno Grandi, the members of the FIG Executive prepared the 75th General Assembly (Congress) that will take place on October 21-23, 2004 in Antalya.
This meeting had a strategic importance:
The Executive Committee of FIG had to finish the analyses of all the Olympic issues and propose decisive and corrective actions to the Congress and its 124 members federations.
In his opening statement, President Grandi stressed the point that he wants to deeply reform the FIG:

On receipt of the CAS decision, FIG President Bruno Grandi stated that the rules were respected stricto sensu. However, he added that the judging situation as a result of this Athens’ incident is still not acceptable.

“The FIG and the gymnasts are entitled to sport justice. Sport cannot exist without justice. I will go to the end to ensure that mistakes and biaised judging are investigated and punished. The responsible will be severely sanctioned!”

Janssen-Fritsen - First official partner of European Gymnastics Federation UEG

The president of the European Gymnastics Federation UEG, Mr. Dimitrios Dimitropoulos (GRE) and the owner of the Dutch company JANSSEN-FRITSEN, Mr. Jacques Janssen signed a two-years contract for a new partnership.

The favorits coming out of Scandinavia, special title applicants are Denmark and Sweden. The women of Halmstad Frygimnaster and the Women of Stockholm Top Gymnastics - became second and third two years ago at last 'TeamGym'.
At the men tries HSG Slagelse from Denmark the hattrick. Long-term master Rodovre og Omegns (Denmark) begins in the Mixed-teams as a title holder, followed by GK Motus Salto from Malmö/Sweden.

'I haven't decided yet although retirement is on horizon,' he said.
'My coach and me, we have to have a look at the new rule first to see if I was still able to adapt myself to the changes. If I could, then I continue; if not, I might quit.'
At the Olympic high bar final the spectators' boos, at the low mark awarded to Nemov for a spectacular routine, further dented the credibility of the judges.
Nemov refused to comment on the judging issue. 'My job is very simple,' he said, 'I'm a gymnast and what I do is to concentrate on competition. For such complicated things, I could do nothing.'
Although he believe the existing judging system needs change and justice, he had no idea whether the change of judging methods could have effect. 'I don't know. Maybe it will be better. I hope so,' he said.

Principles for the new judging regulations
('Code de Pointage')

1. all-purpose applicability for all levels of gymnastics;
2. No limit on top for the score (in the A- score for the difficulty), (that means nor more 'perfect 10', which is supposed to remain only in the B-score for the execution);
3. A stronger emphasis on the execution in contrast to the difficulty through a doubled consideration of it for the final score;
4. Elimination of the bonus points (for combinations) and integration of these points into the values for the elements.

The fundamental decision now lies with the FIG-Congress from Oct. 21st - 23rd in Antalya (Turkey) where a ballot for Grandi's proposals will take place. In case his proposals would be accepted the Technical Committees of women's and men's artistic gymnastics- which will also be newly elected at the cogress - would have one year to develope the new Codes.
