All in all, the World Gymnastics Federation (FIG), once again determined no less than 100 World Cup winners (?!) (60 for men, 40 for women) in only one calendar year!!?
Very often, the established and leading nations or their top athletes ignored this flood of competition opportunities, which not only often led to a drop in the level of performance and thus the attractiveness and, as a consequence, generally to a devaluation of media and thus public interest. Even a public highly interested in our sport can hardly follow this inflation of competition events and data, which mostly hardly exceeds regional or territorial interest. The so-called "world rankings", which are kept internally, are of little relevance in the media and also factually, as they do not reflect performance patterns, but rather participation frequencies.
Even more decisive, however, is the fact that this frequency of competitions generally fundamentally contradicts the basic character and the high level of physical performance requirements, since most athletes are still obligatorily involved in additional national competition systems.
If this flood of World Cups was primarily caused by monetary reasons, these should be fundamentally questioned in the interest of maintaining the health and minimising the risks of the athletes.
A general restructuring of the international competition calendar, which is oriented towards the requirements and reasonableness of the highly complex requirement profile of modern artistic gymnastics, but at the same time more effectively meets the changed media requirement profiles, seems urgently necessary!

(9) FIG WORLD Challenge CUP 2023 (08. - 10. September)
     in Szombathely, Hungary

♦ Gymnastics Austria rejoices: 7^th World Cup victory for Vinzenz Hoeck ...
... who successfully defended his World Cup victory on rings from last year in Szombathely, Hungary. The 27-year-old gymnast from Graz won on his special apparatus already for the 7th time in the artistic gymnastics world series. In Szombathely, Hoeck stood at the top of the podium for the third time overall after 2020 (his premiere success) and 2022: "It was really exhausting today, but I still managed a good free skate."
Ring's silver was secured by Socrates Pilakouris of Cyprus, bronze by Daniel Villafane of Argentina.

Already in the qualification Hoeck scored behind the multiple World and European Champion, Olympic Champion Eleftherios Petrounias (GRE) as second with 14.900 points for the first time in about a year an absolute world class score.
The background: After the Universiade in August Hoeck had taken the hard-earned but rarely rewarded "head cross" out of the program again. This decision now proved to be correct.

In a way, this third of six FIG World Challenge Cups is the "half-time tournament" of this series in the pre-Olympic year.
It will be completed at the beginning of September in Mersin / TUR, one week later in Szombathely / HUN, before it will be finished on September 16/17 in the Olympic Arena in Paris.
* In the men's competition, interesting and highly decorated world champions and Olympic medalists will shape the starting field in Osijek, such as vaulting world champion Artur Davtjan / ARM, former high bar world champion Arthur Mariano / BRA or also rings legend Arthur Zanetti / BRA, who was already Olympic champion in London 11 years ago; also Olympic silver medalist from Beijing (2008) Filip Ude will once again take up the pommels for his country ...!

For the first time, the Gymnastics Federation of Israel is hosting a World Challenge Cup on the first weekend of June 2023.
In general, gymnasts of Israel are on an upward trend in terms of performance internationally!
In addition, the national federation will host the European Championships for women and men in 2025 ...

On floor and vault, Hungary's Krisztofer MÈSZÀROS took a double victory in the men's competition.
On horse, the audience cheered for a home victory of Eyal INDIG from Israel.
On rings, Austria's specialist Vinzenz HOECK took his 6th World Cup success.
On parallel bars Ahmet OENDER from the European Vice-Champion Turkey triumphed.
on high bar the victory went to Spain's Nèstor ABAD.

** With a number of 109 men from 44 different countries, the female World Cup section is both quantitatively and above all qualitatively much weaker with 61 gymnasts from 28 nations.
But for the host-city of Baku his is a record number of participating countries (48) in history in this Gymnastics disciplines.

* Final Day 1 - : On men's side won the top favourites on floor and rings, the Olympic Champions Dolgopyat (ISR) and Petrounias (GRE).
Winner on Pommel horse was Abdulla Azimov from Uzbekistan
* On women's side both winners came from Italy: On vault Manila Esposoto (Oksana Chusovitina on 3rd place) and Alice D'Amato on uneven bars, in front of the young German Meolie Jauch, while European Champion Elisabeth Seitz ranked on 8th place only.
 * Final Day 1 - : On Sunday the two Japanese victories on women's side: Youngster Mana OKAMURA beats World Champion Urara Ashikawa on balance beam and the young Azuka Kokufugata was the best on floor in front of Italy's Manila Esposito and the Brit Ruby Evans.
On men's side on vault nobody had a chance against world champion Artur DAVTYAN,
Ukraine's Ilja KOVTUN won it's fourth world cup titel on parallel bars in a year and Shohei KAWAKAMI was the only one Japanes mal winner at this day in Cottbus!
